Russian Chemical-Technological University named after D. I. Mendeleeva (RCTU) is one of the leading chemical universities in Russia and trains specialists in a variety of specialties, both technical and humanitarian. The number of students is about 10,000.
Story
In the city of MPU it was transformed into the Moscow Chemical Technical School. In the city, the technical school was named after D.I. Mendeleev, and in 1920 the technical school was reorganized into the Moscow Institute of Chemical Technology (MHTI) named after D.I. Mendeleev. In 1992, the institute becomes a university - RCTU im. D.I. Mendeleev.
In the 1970s, the institute acquired an additional building at 6 Prichalny proezd (Metro Polezhaevskaya). There is a military training faculty and a labor protection department. In 1984, 3 more buildings were built at st. Geroev-Panfilovtsev, 20. The Engineering Physics and Chemistry Faculty, the Engineering Chemical Technology Faculty and the Silicate Faculty have moved there. In September 2008, a new university building was put into operation on the street. Heroes Panfilovtsev.

RKTU, or as it is usually called by students of this university and Muscovites, Mendeleev University, is one of the most famous educational institutions in our country. Within its walls, they have been training specialists in many specialties for more than a century. At the same time, about this university today you can hear both positive and negative reviews of students, which, together with objective information about the RCTU, may be interesting and useful to applicants.
History of D. Mendeleev University
Moscow Mendeleev University has a long history, which dates back to the opening of the Industrial School in Moscow in 1898. Large sums were spent on the construction of buildings and technical equipment of the new educational institution, therefore, at the time of its foundation, it was rightfully considered one of the most advanced in Europe and in the world. After the revolution, the Industrial School was transformed first into the Chemical Technical School, and then into the Dmitri Mendeleev Institute. During the Second World War, part of the students and teachers of the university were evacuated, but a branch of the Moscow Art Institute continued to operate in the capital. As for the development of the institute in the post-war years, during this period new buildings were built and the Novomoskovsk branch was formed. And finally, in 1992, this university was transformed into the Russian University of Chemical Technology.
general information
Today about 10 thousand students study at the RCTU, including more than 300 citizens of 30 foreign countries. In addition, the university prepares for the defense of dissertations almost 500 graduate students and several hundred applicants for scientific degrees. Mendeleev University is proud of its highly qualified scientific and teaching staff, which includes 11 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences and academicians, more than 220 professors and doctors of science, as well as about 550 associate professors and candidates of science. According to students' feedback, most of them are satisfied with their teachers, but many note that there is a need to attract young professionals with new thinking and bold ideas. There are especially many who are dissatisfied with the lack of “fresh personnel” at the IT&U faculty.
Training units
Mendeleev University has four institutes:
- Materials of modern energy and nanotechnology.
- Economics and management.
- Chemistry and Sustainable Development Issues.
- Institute for Professional Development.
In addition, among the educational units of the RCTU are the D. Mendeleev Novomoskovsk Institute, three higher colleges, magistracy and correspondence departments and as well as two evening schools and the Center pre-university training.
The D. Mendeleev RCTU has 10 faculties, and accepts students for training in the following specialties:
- Fundamental and Applied Chemistry.
- Materials science and technology of materials.
- Nanomaterials.
- Nanoengineering.
- Standardization and Metrology.
- Jurisprudence.
- Management.
- Linguistics.
- Chemistry.
- Sociology, etc.
Many students in their reviews express bewilderment about the need to have faculties in a chemical university that provide non-core, for example, sociological education.
Mendeleev University: admissions committee
V last years there is an increase in the number of those wishing to enter the Dmitry Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology. To do this, applicants should contact the admissions office of this university at No. 9. Opening hours: from 10:00 to 16:00 (only on weekdays). To get to Miusskaya Square, you can use the metro or surface public transport. The selection committee also operates in the Novomoskovsk branch of the RCTU. Its address: the city of Novomoskovsk, Tula region, Druzhba street, 8 (opening hours are the same as in the parent university).
Feedback from applicants and students confirms that the composition admissions committee Mendeleev University consists of friendly and knowledgeable specialists who readily advise young people who are going to enter this university on all issues that arise.
The procedure for enrolling students
Mendeleevsky enrolls students in accordance with the established procedure. At the same time, some of the applicants enter this university without entrance examinations. The rest are credited “by competition”. Lists of applicants without passing entrance examinations are ranked taking into account the personal achievements of a particular applicant. As for the competitive lists, they are first of all ordered in descending order of the competitive points (in total). If they are equal, again, they take into account the individual achievements of a particular applicant in studies and sports. It should be noted that there are practically no reviews of students about the unfair or incorrect formation of the lists of applicants.
Reception of foreign citizens
As already mentioned, Mendeleev University also provides training for foreigners. The enrollment of this category of applicants is carried out in accordance with regulations, federal laws and international treaties.
In RCTU them. DI Mendeleev also admits compatriots (persons residing in the territory of the republics of the former USSR), foreign citizens and stateless persons residing in the territory of the Russian Federation.
RCTU buildings
Those who want to enter Mendeleevsky students about the state of some buildings may be forced to reconsider their decision. However, students' stories about outdated equipment and dilapidated furniture relate mainly to the oldest buildings of the university. In general, the RCTU consists of the following complexes: Miussky, Tushinsky, the Shelepikha complex, the Central Chemical Library and the Novomoskovsky branch. Main building The university is located in the Miussky complex, there are two assembly halls and the famous Aquarium hall. According to students, many rooms, including educational ones, of the main complex on Miusskaya Square are rather dirty, and repairs are usually done only in the largest classrooms. As for the Tushino complex, it includes an educational laboratory and buildings of several scientific research institutes of the RCTU, as well as a large classroom block. According to students' reviews, the main disadvantage of the Tushino building is its inconvenient location, but otherwise the new complexes are in a pretty good condition.
Campus
Mendeleev University (Moscow) has a campus located near the Tushino complex on Vilisa Latsis Street. The campus includes 3 buildings of student dormitories, as well as the SKK, with an assembly and a large gym. In addition, there is a library on the campus, there are several shops, canteens and canteens, as well as a sanatorium. In total, more than three thousand students and about 150 teachers live in the hostels. According to the students' feedback, the living conditions on the campus correspond to generally accepted norms. However, many students point to the lack of shared kitchens.

I entered on a contract basis, and passed the moderately difficult exams. For "state employees" exams were more difficult, and the competition was about 3 people for one place. But after admission, everyone studied together and the conditions were the same for everyone. There were 3 groups in the course, each group had 20-23 students. I am studying at the RCTU for the first year and so far I am satisfied. When I got there for the first time, I had the impression that I was at Hogwarts, only the stairs do not move - everyone is in dressing gowns, it is almost impossible to find an audience on your own. In the Tushino building, everything is somehow simpler. The university is crumbling before our eyes - there have been no repairs, apparently since the day of its foundation. The Miussky building is absolutely ancient equipment, but everything works, even strange. But in general it is interesting to study, they will not let you relax. I study inorganic myself ...
