Introduction

Last year, a miniature smartphone from "Vobis Computer" (Highscreen) was released, accidentally left without my attention. However, no wonder: many reviewers bypassed it, since the gadget has rather unpretentious technical characteristics. At the moment, Pure J costs less than 3,000 rubles. Who is this model suitable for? It seems to me that those who are completely uninterested in processors, chips, memory, IPS or AMOLED matrices, cameras and so on, but Android is important in order to deliver a couple of important programs, two sim cards, extremely small dimensions and at least more or less decent appearance... Of course, the Pure J design is also not all right, but the user can choose one of five colors of the back cover: black, white, orange, blue or yellow.

Design, dimensions, controls

The Pure J smartphone inherits the Pure F design, which, in turn, retains the external resemblance to the Jolla device on Sailfish OS. That is, the body consists of two halves: the back side is rectangular, and the back is flat, but the corners are decorated in a semicircle. It turns out a two-layer "pie". Looks good.

As I wrote in the introduction, the device is available in several colors, or rather, the covers are available in different colors. Alas, you will not find an additional panel in the kit, but it would be great, since Highscreen has already experimented in this direction. Probably, the manufacturer tried to save as much as possible on Pure J. As far as I know, all the covers are matte, pleasant to the touch, the colors are quite bright.

Dimensions are small - 111x61x9.9 mm, after "shovels" like Samsung Galaxy Note, LG G4 or Meizu Pro Highscreen seems so small and easy to use that you want to use it for a while. However, it disappears when it becomes necessary to quickly type text on the keyboard, take photos, post them to colleagues at work, or something similar.

The phone weighs 115 grams, roughly the same as the Apple iPhone 5.

Despite its low cost, the Pure J screen has an oleophobic coating, and of good quality: prints are almost invisible, they wear off quickly, the finger glides easily. The material is glass.

Collected Pure J for a 3-plus or a 4-minus. Over time, the lid began to creak. Everything else is good.

At the top center is the speaker. It has a slightly higher volume than average, the quality is so-so: it wheezes on ringing notes, the sound is booming. To the right of the speaker - front-camera.

Under the display are control buttons. They are unlit and marked with silver paint.

The microphone is on the bottom, microUSB and 3.5 mm on the top. On the left is the volume rocker key, on the right is the power button. Relatively comfortable to use. Material - glossy black plastic.

On the back side there is a camera recessed into the body, a small LED flash, a slot where the speaker is located.

The back panel is removable. Under it at the top are slots for microSIM and miniSIM, as well as a microSD slot.

Display

This device uses a 3.5-inch screen. Physical size - 74x49 mm, top frame - 17 mm, bottom - 19 mm, right and left - about 6 mm each. There is no anti-reflective coating.

The resolution of the Pure J display from Highscreen is HVGA, that is, 320x480 pixels, the aspect ratio is 3: 2, and the density is 164 pixels per inch. The matrix is not IPS, with an air gap.

Maximum brightness white - 350 cd / m2, maximum black brightness - 0.65 cd / m2. Contrast - 550: 1.

Since the matrix is not IPS, the picture, frankly, is disappointing: when the display deviates from itself, the colors fade sharply, when tilted towards itself, they are sharply inverted. The touch layer works out 2 touches.

Battery

This model uses a removable 1300 mAh lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery. The manufacturer does not provide data on battery performance.

In my conditions, Highscreen Pure J "lived" for about 8-9 hours: for about an hour of talks, 4-5 hours of 3G, a couple of hours of Wi-Fi, a camera - 20 minutes, about an hour of listening to music. In a more gentle mode, Pure F works until the evening.

The smartphone charges up to 100% from a standard AC adapter in about two hours.

Communication capabilities

The device supports GSM / GPRS / EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz); 3G / HSPA + (900/2100 MHz). Otherwise, a typical Android set: Wi-Fi b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS (he is reluctant to search for satellites, but the accuracy is good). OTG mode does not work.

Memory and memory card

Inside only 256 MB random access memory, which is enough only for a couple of applications in the background. The built-in memory is also small - 512 MB. Unfortunately, the camera will require a memory card to operate, and for everything else. Naturally, a slot was found for it, the maximum volume is 32 GB.

Cameras

The Highscreen Pure J device is equipped with two camera modules: the main one is 2 MP without autofocus, the front one is 0.3 MP. There is a flash.

The camera modules in this device are pain and sorrow. Instead of 2 MP here, it's probably 0.3 MP (interpolation). If you take a picture of a sheet of A4 format, where the text is printed in 12-14 type, then, most likely, it will be difficult to make out the letters.

The device writes video in a resolution of 854x480 pixels at 15 frames per second. The sound is great. The video quality is definitely higher than the photo. Therefore, it is better to do mini-videos than photos :)

Performance

The Highscreen Pure F smartphone is powered by the old "worn-out" Taiwanese MediaTek MT6572M chipset. It uses a dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz per core. The graphics are Mali-400.

The interface is a little laggy, slows down, there are shell freezes. The smartphone itself is slow, hard to perform certain functions. But if the memory is not clogged with applications, then using Pure J is possible without problems.

Earlier this month, the Highscreen Pure J model was leaked to our editorial office, which was presented on the market a little earlier. At the time of this writing, the cost of a smartphone was 2,990 rubles. It should be said that this phone is the cheapest in the model series. Whether this model deserves attention, let's try to figure it out in our review.

Disassembling devices in the price range of less than 3 thousand rubles, as a rule, 3.2-4-inch products come across. It is clear that it is not even worth thinking about strong characteristics in this segment, although for last years the situation here is gradually beginning to improve. You shouldn't count on a nice design either.

Separately, it should be said about smartphones from operators, which represent a separate segment on the market. Such devices offset part of the price due to subscription. Moreover, if you are not going to go anywhere or buy a second SIM card, then it makes sense to take a closer look at such phones.

Our Highscreen Pure J does not have such restrictions, since you can always travel with it even abroad.

Packaging and equipment

The smartphone arrived inside a small box made of eco-friendly cardboard. In front, you can see the main characteristics and a schematic representation of the model itself.

Together with the phone, Highscreen included charger, headset, warranty card, microUSB cable and technical documentation.

Appearance

Similar to previous versions, Pure J has got several color options. The available color options on the market include blue, white, orange, black and yellow.

For its price tag, the device looks pretty good. This model can probably be attributed to one of the most interesting solutions that can be found today in the price range of up to 3 thousand rubles. A version has arrived in our hands yellow color... It should be noted that the light color is able to solve some problems concerning fingerprints and scratches on the case. They are simply invisible.

Highscreen Pure J uses plastic as the main material, while the back panel has a soft-touch coating, and the front is completely glossy.

For a long time we have not considered smartphones with 3.5-inch displays, and therefore this model looks a little unusual and tiny. Weighing 115 grams, the dimensions of the case are limited to 111 × 61.6 × 9.9 millimeters.

After 5.5-inch fellows, the phone seems to sink into the hands. Mechanical keys, as well as the main interface elements, are easily accessible. Control is comfortable with one hand. There will be no difficulties with wearing the device: the pocket of your trousers or jacket will not stick out.

Despite the budget, they did a good job on the assembly in Highscreen: nothing backlash, no squeaks are noticeable. All elements are firmly fitted with each other. Sak the case is collapsible, where under the socket you can find a storage slot, a pair for SIM cards, where one is for micro SIM, and a removable battery.

The Pure J screen is protected by glass, but this is far from Gorilla Glass, so you should use your smartphone with caution. There is a small raised edge along the sides to minimize all contact with the display.

There are 3 touch keys under the screen. They are not backlit. The top frame houses only the front camera with a speaker grill.

On the sides of Highscreen Pure J there are mechanical keys: on the left side - the volume rocker, on the right - the power key.

The sides of the smartphone are rounded. Thanks to this, the phone fits comfortably in the hand. It also provides a more secure grip, reducing the risk of the device falling.

On the back side at the top is the main camera's peephole. It does not protrude above the body. An oblong grille with LED flash can also be seen here.

Display

Highscreen Pure J is equipped with a 3.5-inch TN-TFT-matrix with a resolution of 480 × 320 pixels. And although the pixel density is low, it is even enough to not notice the pixelization effect. The smartphone gives out a harmonious and juicy image.

Small issues arise when viewing at an angle, where noticeable distortions begin to be seen vertically. In other matters, the picture quality raises no objections.

Iron

The main component of Pure J is MediaTek MT6572M. Highscreen engineers have placed a bundle of a 2-core 1 GHz CPU and a Mali-400 MP as the graphics chipset. The platform is considered to be very outdated, but for the available price tag the phone does not provide for heavy loads by default. At the same time, you can still play casual games somehow, but with larger applications, the RAM, which is only 256 MB, will not allow you to work. From the built-in memory on board 512 MB. The main drawback of the model lies precisely in this place. During testing, certain difficulties were noticed when launching some applications.

Another nuance is that when you open several tabs in the browser with sites overloaded with advertising banners, the smartphone starts to freeze. In this case, you will have to keep track of the number of simultaneously open tabs. In addition, the phone does not allow all applications to be transferred to the memory card.

At the end of this part, it should be said that Highscreen Pure J is equipped with FM, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and Wi-Fi modules.

Autonomy

The model is equipped with a 1300 mAh battery. Taking into account the available diagonal and low-power-consuming filling, the phone can work up to several days.

The smartphone simply does not lend itself to heavy load and the charge is consumed little. Continuous playback of clips can drain the battery in 11 hours.

Cameras

Pure J has two modules: 0.3 and 2 megapixels. Of course, you shouldn't count on a good quality picture. However, it is still slightly better than the vast majority of budget tablets.

Focusing speed is acceptable. The Highscreen developers have added several options and modes for shooting to the camera application. The quality of the finished snapshot and video is stretched enough for video calling and posting on social media.

Software

The smartphone is working under android 4.4. The manufacturer did not install any skins. The phone supports over-the-air updates.

The number of preinstalled applications is minimal, and among them are mostly original ones from Google.

Smartphone video review

In addition, we suggest watching a video review of the model from Vlad Filatov:

Outcome

If you do not prioritize complex tasks, then this model is quite suitable as an everyday device. For the most part, a smartphone is designed for voice messages, communication via social networks, working with a browser, instant messengers and running small games.

The strong points of the device include a good display, good battery life and a nice design.

The only thing we didn’t like about Highscreen Pure J was the reduced amount of built-in and RAM.

Screen type: IPS (In Plane Switching) is a high-quality liquid crystal matrix, which was created to eliminate the main disadvantages of TN technology matrices. The IPS-matrix in the entire spectrum most adequately reproduces colors at different angles of view, with the exception of some positions and colors. TN-matrix has a generally better response than IPS, but not always. For example, the IPS-matrix behaves better during transitions from gray to gray, this matrix is still resistant to pressure. Touching a TN or VA matrix results in "excitement" or a certain reaction on the screen. The IPS matrix has no such effect. In addition, ophthalmologists confirm that the IPS-matrix is the most comfortable for the eyes. In this way, the IPS-matrix brings a bright and clear picture regardless of angles of view, better for working on the Internet, watching movies. But the most important thing is for image processing and photo viewing. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) - Liquid crystal displays. The very first displays used in mobile devices, and not only in telephones. Their main feature is that they have very low power consumption due to the impossibility of displaying a color image. They do not emit light and therefore phones are upgraded with backlight lamps. Some phones had several different backlight colors based on the presence of different LEDs around the display's perimeter. This extraordinary solution was used, for example, in the Ericsson A3618 phone. On this type of display, pixels are clearly visible, and such displays cannot boast of a high resolution. In order to extend the life of such displays, they made them inverted, i.e. text and symbols were not displayed as filled pixels, but, on the contrary, inactive against the background of filled ones. Thus, I got light text on dark background... Currently, this type of display is used in the cheapest budget models (Nokia 1112) and as an external one in some clamshell phones (Samsung D830).

TFT (Thin Film Transistor) - Liquid crystal displays based on thin film transistors with active matrix. There are three transistors for each pixel, corresponding to three colors (RGB - red, green, blue). At the moment, these are the most common displays and have several advantages over other displays. They are distinguished by their minimal response time and rapid development - constantly growing resolution and number of colors. These displays are most common in mid-range phones and above. Working resolutions for them: 128x160, 132x176, 176x208, 176x220, 240x320 and others, less common. Examples: Nokia N73 (240x320, 262 thousand colors), Sony Ericsson K750i (176x220, 262 thousand colors), Samsung D900 (240x320, 262 thousand colors). TFTs are rarely used as external displays for clamshells.

CSTN (Color Super Twisted Nematic) - Passive matrix color liquid crystal displays. Each pixel of such a display consists of three combined pixels, which correspond to three colors (RGB). Some time ago, almost all phones with color displays were based on exactly this type. And now the lot of such displays is budget models. The main disadvantage of such displays is their slowness. The undoubted advantage of such displays is their cost, which is much lower than TFT. Based on simple logic, it can be assumed that in the future TFT will displace this type of displays from the mobile phone market. The color evolution of such displays is quite extensive: from 16 to 65536 colors. Examples: Motorola V177 (128x160, 65 thousand colors), Sony Ericsson J100i (96x64, 65 thousand colors), Nokia 2310 (96x68, 65 thousand colors).

UFB (Ultra Fine and Bright) - Liquid crystal displays with increased brightness and contrast on a passive matrix. We can say that this is an intermediate option between CSTN and TFT. This type of display boasts lower power consumption compared to TFT. For the most part, such displays were used by Samsung in mid-range phones. This type of display is not widely used. Examples: Samsung C100 / 110 (128x128, 65 thousand colors).

TN is one type of TFT display matrix. Roughly speaking, TN is the simplest and cheapest TFT matrix. The viewing angles are the narrowest.

Packaging

HIGHSCREEN PURE J is sold in a beige box, which is already familiar to us. Its overall dimensions are small and are 134x75x52 millimeters, while the weight is 256 grams.
On the top side there is an image of the device without a back cover; here you can also find information about the processor, battery, camera, networks, the amount of built-in and RAM. At the very bottom is the address of the official website and the name of the model.

On the left side there is a sticker with three barcodes. In the upper right corner there is a circle that marks the color of the model. In this case, the smartphone is black.

On the right side there is only the model name.

The model name is also duplicated on the back and front sides.

On the underside there is the model name, barcode, QR code, website address, assembly and development site. There is also information that the amount of available memory is less than stated in the technical specifications, since some of it is used operating system smartphone.

The box is packed in transparent plastic, so there is no need to fix the top cover with stickers, as you can see on previous models.
The packaging is compact, the description of the technical characteristics is partly present. There is even a HIGHSCREEN PURE J image, it is a pity that it is not in color. The box is made in the style of previous models, there is nothing new here.

Equipment

HIGHSCREEN PURE J comes with a small package. It includes:
- documentation
- USB network adapter
- headset
- microUSB cable - USB
As with previous models, the HIGHSCREEN PURE J documentation has been expanded. In addition to the quick user's guide and the warranty card, it includes two leaflets additional information... The first shows the correspondence of slots for SIM and flash cards, and the second contains a list of pages in all popular in social networksfor HIGHSCREEN news.

The headset is of little value and is just for show.
All components are packed in separate plastic bags.

Appearance

HIGHSCREEN PURE J is rectangular with no rounded corners. The dimensions of the smartphone are 61.6x111x9.9 millimeters, and the weight is 115 grams.
Almost the entire area of the front side is occupied by a 3.5-inch screen. On the sides, the edging is 4 millimeters, bottom and top 16 millimeters.

On top of the HIGHSCREEN PURE J there is a hole for the earpiece, and on the right is a 0.3 MP front camera.

Below are three touch buttons highlighted in white. Even in low light, they are clearly visible.

On the left side of the HIGHSCREEN PURE J there is a volume control key.

On the right side you can see the lock / power button.

These controls protrude one millimeter from the body and are therefore easy to find with your finger.
On the top side there is a 3.5 mm mini-jack headset and a microUSB port for synchronizing the device with a computer and charging.

On the bottom side there is only a microphone hole and a rectangular slot for easy removal of the back cover.

The back panel of the HIGHSCREEN PURE J is made of matte black plastic.

In the top center is the main 2 megapixel camera, below - the LED flash.

The HIGHSCREEN logo is vertically placed in the very center of the rear panel.
At the bottom there is a three-row perforation used as a speaker grill.

Removing the back panel reveals a slot for a micro SD / micro SDHC flash card. To the right are two slots for SIM cards. The most interesting thing here is that HIGHSCREEN PURE J can simultaneously use two different form factors of SIM-cards: mini-SIM and micro-SIM.

The battery in the smartphone is removable 1300 mAh. There is a sticker with serial numbers under it.

At the very bottom you can see the speaker hole.
Moving away from the topic a little, I want to say that HIGHSCREEN PURE J has several color options: white, black, orange, yellow and blue.

The appearance of the HIGHSCREEN PURE J practically does not differ from the previous models of the company. There are no questions about the assembly, all the parts fit tightly to each other.

Screen

The HIGHSCREEN PURE J uses a TFT screen. Its diagonal is 3.5 inches, and the resolution is 480x200 pixels. There are flashes on the sides, but not very noticeable.

The picture quality is at a satisfactory level. The display supports simultaneous touching of up to two fingers, which is quite enough for performing the simplest operations for which this smartphone is intended.

When exposed to direct sunlight, the screen becomes darkened and therefore partially invisible.
The sensor is fast and sensitive.
It is clear that the HIGHSCREEN PURE J screen is far from ideal, but in the range budget smartphones looks pretty decent.

Interface

HIGHSCREEN PURE J works under the operating room android system 4.4. Immediately after turning on the smartphone, the HIGHSCREEN branded screensaver appears on the screen, which we know from previous models. After that, you need to go through a short account registration, which, by the way, can be skipped.
The HIGHSCREEN PURE J is pre-installed with one desktop.

The standard set of applications is located on two menu pages.

The settings menu looks familiar.

The shutter of the menu with quick settings looks like cells, it contains all the necessary elements.

With a long touch on the main screen, you can go to the main page control menu. Here you can change the wallpaper, as well as get quick access to widgets and settings.

The smartphone has a very wide range of wallpapers.

The HIGHSCREEN PURE J interface is quite familiar; navigating the menu is not at all difficult. The layout and design is the same as on other Android devices.

Using

Since the back panel is slightly widened, the smartphone is comfortable to hold in the hands, which is especially important when making calls.

As I said earlier, the device has a modest size, and thanks to this, HIGHSCREEN PURE J will fit even in a small trouser pocket or bag.
As expected, the call quality is on par. The subscriber is perfectly heard not only through the speaker, but also through the headset that comes with the kit. In general, the ability to use SIM-cards of two different formats in one case turned out to be very convenient, especially if you take such a phone on a trip.
Web surfing is possible, pages open quickly enough, delays begin when viewing several pages at the same time. Of course, the screen is small, but it is possible to view the necessary information.

Games start, but not with complex graphics. But with casual problems did not arise.

Again, I repeat that due to the small diagonal of the screen, the gameplay can be difficult. Naturally, if you buy a smartphone for the game, then it will be a completely different model and, accordingly, a different price.

Camera

HIGHSCREEN PURE J has two cameras. The main one is 2 megapixels, equipped with an LED flash, and the front one is 0.3 megapixels. The picture quality during video calls is quite sufficient to make out the interlocutor, but more is not needed. As for the main one, here the quality of pictures and videos leaves much to be desired. But for a device with such a low price, that's the norm.
The camera settings were more than expected.
