# Attractions of Tenerife in the photo |What to visit and see in Tenerife

Welcome to the blog, I am very, very glad to see you!

From the travel diary article you will learn:

1. Rest in Tenerife. How to arrange a trip yourself?

How to plan a trip on your own and why tourists increasingly do without travel agencies?

  • First, the case in savings... An independent trip to Tenerife was worth for us in 2 times cheaper than a tour from a travel agency.
  • Second, travel on your own much more interesting. This is not a banal vacation for 7 or 14 days, but a whole adventure! You get to know and understand better the life of the people of another country.
  • Thirdly itself waiting and preparing to an independent journey is a real quest!

Planning your trip to Tenerife is very simple:

  • It is necessary to draw up a travel itinerary(in our case, the route was as follows: Kiev - Barcelona - Tenerife and back)
  • Order tickets on famous low-cost websites (English, low cost) airlines(flight to Barcelona - low-cost airline website Wizzair, flight from Barcelona to Tenerife - the site of the most famous low-cost airline in Europe (Barcelona - Tenerife ticket cost only 25 euros!)
  • Book a hotel or apartment(the most famous and proven sites that I always use. To book hotels - Booking.com, for ordering apartments - Airbnb)
  • If there is no visa, then submit documents and obtain a visa. Typically, it is required that air tickets and a hotel be booked.

Book flights and hotels in advance (1-2 months and even more)... Then the cost is several times lower. For example, a ticket from Barcelona to Tenerife, bought on the airline's website in 2 months, cost only EUR 25... And a week before departure, the ticket price increased to 70 euros.

All low-cost airlines have the right to postpone the flight for several hours. Therefore, it is impossible for the connection between flights to be small. It may seem like a minus ... But in fact for us this minus turned out to be a plus. We got two trips in one (both to the Canary Islands and to Barcelona). You can also stay 1 night in Barcelona. This is a fantastic city! We walked for 2 days in Barcelona on the way to Tenerife and 2 days on the way back. Next, I will tell you in more detail about how you can see all the sights of Barcelona in a few days.

Only bring carry-on baggage with you. This will save you money on your flight and travel light! Please note that the size of the bag or suitcase that you take on the plane for FREE should not be larger than 42 X 32 X 25 cm - in Wizzair and 50 X 40 X 20 cm - h.

Don't be afraid to book hostels in Barcelona... Hostels in Barcelona are actually small hotels with private rooms. The fact is that hotels in Barcelona are expensive and even the cost of a hostel starts from 40-50 euros for a room for 2. We stayed at Pensión Miami ... This is a nice little hotel with friendly staff right in the center of Barcelona. A room for 2 (with a bathroom in the room) cost 50 euros in September. You can search using filters on the site Booking.com the hostel is cheaper (further from the center of Barcelona).

Boqueria Market Barcelona

Where to eat inexpensively in Barcelona? You can combine business with pleasure. An excursion to the famous Boqueria market on La Rambla is a must in the program to experience the authentic atmosphere of old Catalonia. You can also eat here - the jamon will be cut into thin slices for you. There is an abundance of fruits, crispy rolls, sausages on the market. You can buy freshly squeezed juice for only 1 euro.

Why do travelers go not to the south of Tenerife, but to the north? The answer is very simple. South of Tenerife is expensive hotels with white sand imported from Africa. Rest here is similar to rest in a luxury hotel in Turkey on the "All Inclusive" system. But is it worth going so far for such a banal vacation. And in the north, in the oldest resort town of Puerto de la Cruz, you will feel the enchanting atmosphere of Spain!

How to get from Tenerife South Airport to Puerto de la Cruz? Tenerife has 2 airports - north and south. But even if your plane takes you to the southern airport, it's not scary. Because there is a regular bus from the airport. The distance from the southern airport to Puerto de la Cruz is about 95 km. The ticket costs about 10 euros. The distance from the northern airport to Puerto de la Cruz is about 38 km.

But there is another, more comfortable way (especially if you are traveling with small children), you can pre-order a taxi from the airport at very loyal prices on the site famous service Kiwitaxi .

What hotel to stay in Puerto de la Cruz? We were amazed by the fact that the hotels in this famous resort are cheap. I used to associate the Canary Islands with an expensive vacation. But this is a myth! In our hotel with a swimming pool and a large beautiful territory - a room of 35 sq.m. with balcony, bedroom and studio kitchen cost only 25 euros at the end of September. By the way, when I was looking for a hotel, I noticed that almost all hotels have a small kitchen in their rooms. We fell in love with our hotel. We liked that from the hotel we had to go down to the sea along a pedestrian street, pass cafes, shops, beautiful houses with carved balconies. All hotels in Puerto de la Cruz can be viewed.

Here is a view from the window of our apartments to the courtyard of our hotel

When is the best time to relax in Tenerife? Here the air temperature is from 20 to 26 degrees all year round. Therefore, people have no batteries or air conditioners. Screens on the windows are also not needed, because for some reason there are no mosquitoes here. Just wonderful living conditions! The most ideal time to relax is early autumn. We were at the end of September. The air temperature was 25 degrees. The water in the ocean was also about the same temperature. The whole city was buried in flowers. We walked only on foot, enjoying the color of the Canary streets with colorful houses and carved balconies.

3. Attractions of Tenerife

The main attraction is the city of Puerto de la Cruz itself. It is absolutely different from other travel centers. There are few hotels here and you involuntarily find yourself in the unhurried philistine life of the indigenous people who do not worship tourists, as is often the case in resorts. In this city you feel not like a tourist, but like a relative who has come to visit.

Black sand on the beaches of Puerto de la Cruz. Black sand is Tenerife's trademark. It is of volcanic origin. I have no idea why it was necessary to bring white sand to the south of Tenerife, because this is such a commonplace, it is found on all the beaches of the world. Be sure to take a photo on the beach on the black sand!

ATTENTION! If you want to bring black sand as a souvenir, then keep in mind that this is prohibited. For my friend, I poured some sand into the pockets of my jeans and thus quietly carried it on board the plane :)))

Artificial lakes Lago Martianez with sea water. They were built back in the 70s with the participation of the famous architect Cesar Manrique. It is surprisingly beautiful and cozy here - fountains, flowers, palm trees, cafes, sun loungers. When the ocean is raging, you can relax here. A full day ticket costs only 3 euros.

Lago martianez

This is a garden and a zoo of extraordinary beauty. Every year, all EU countries allocate an amount with many zeros so that work is carried out here to restore many endangered species of birds, animals and plants.

More than 1000 different local plants are collected in Loro Park. There are several theaters on the water with shows of killer whales, dolphins, and fur seals. And even a parrot show. There are several performances per day, lasting 30 minutes. Be sure to go to Loropark, even if the price seems high to you. You will not regret it. An adult ticket costs 34 euros, children - 23. Hours of operation: from 8:30 to 18:45.

Loro park

Volcano teide Is an important attraction of Tenerife. It is known that Columbus, Cook, Darwin admired this volcano. Tourists try to visit it. We left to conquer this peak at 3718 m for the next trip. We definitely want to come to the Canary Islands again.

Tenerife teide

The ancient wine storage about. Tenerife Casa del Vino is only 10 min. drive from Puerto de la Cruz in the town of El Sauzal. It has a tasting room, a wine museum and a restaurant serving Canarian masterpieces.

Sights of architecture of Puerto de la Cruz. This is an old square. Charco, there is a statue of the Holy Virgin Mary on it. Also, the Nuestra Senora de la Pena de Francia church, where weddings are held at night. House of Abaco - Casa Abaco, it houses a museum of Canarian architecture.

Miranda's house - Casa de Miranda, now houses a restaurant and a souvenir shop. Castle San Felipe, Royal Customs - Casa de la Real, a small local fishing port.

Entertainment in Puerto de la Cruz. The most cheerful, crowded streets are the embankment, Charco square, Quintana, Santo Domingo, San Telmo.

The Fiesta Canaria Concert Hall hosts shows of Canarian folklore, the Andromeda Restaurant, Taoro Casino hosts evening shows in the Moulin Rouge style. There is a wonderful Blue Not Jazz bar and famous discos - Castillo, Victoria, Joy, H2O, Playa, Jockey Night Club Cabaret.

The beaches of Puerto de la Cruz. The city has 2 large beaches for tourists with unique black sand - Playa Martianez and Playa Jardin. Playa Martianez Beach is wilder and less equipped, it is not protected from the waves and there are no sun loungers, but there are fewer people on it. Jardin beach (Playa Jardin) has everything for a comfortable stay - showers, changing rooms, cafes, honey. paragraph. And protected from the waves by a powerful concrete breakwater. There are lakes (pools) with Martianez sea water, which I wrote about above. And we also found one beach - the city one. It is quite small (between the Martianez lakes and the Jardin beach). Very colorful, locals rest on it. The beach is not black sand, but volcanic rocks.

Where to eat in Puerto de la Cruz? Prices in cafes and restaurants on the waterfront are higher than far from the sea. In small cute cafes not far from our hotel, food was often served to us by the owners of the establishments themselves. The prices are ridiculous and the portions are huge - you can take 1 portion of paella for two.

Seafood pizza, freshly caught and grilled dorado fish are delicious. I also fell in love with Sangria. We bought it in supermarkets. The price is about 1 euro for 1.5 liters. You can't try such delicious Sangria here 🙁

4. Self-guided travel guide to Barcelona

I promised to tell you how in a couple of days you can see almost all the sights of the city. The plan is as follows.

1. Coming to the center of Barcelona(Plaza Catalunya) from the airport by bus. The bus runs every 5-10 minutes and costs 5.90 euros. You can also get there by taxi. The cost of a taxi ride to the center is about 30 euros. With this service Kiwi Taxi You can book a taxi online for an inexpensive price (not only from Barcelona airport, but also from any airport in the world). You can place your order online and the taxi driver will meet you with a sign with your name at the airport.

2. On the main square of Barcelona - Plaza Catalunya you can buy a city tour of Barcelona in special kiosks. It's such a cool thing. It works like this: red 2-storey buses run along the route. You get on any bus with a ticket, preferably on the 2nd floor, listen to the excursion (plug in the headphones that will be given to you with a ticket to channel 8 (audio guide in Russian)). Then get off at those stops where you want to take a closer look at the sights (you will be given a route map).

After viewing the attraction, take the next bus. And so you travel all day. There is a tour for 2 days. Barcelona City Tour Cost for 1 day - € 28.00 (adult) and € 16.00 (child). For 2 days - € 39.00 (adult) and € 20.00 (child).

Don't forget to feed the pigeons in the square!

3. What must be seen in Barcelona on the Barcelona City Tour? I have indicated the metro stations in case you will be traveling by metro.

  • Casa Batlló and Casa Mila (architect Antoni Gaudi). Metro: Passeig de Gràcia
  • Park Guell (architect Antoni Gaudi). Metro: Lesseps (L3)

5. Another useful life hack for independent travel

Book a transfer from the airport or train station or from the hotel in advance, at the airport you will be met by a driver with a sign.

6. How much does a vacation Tenerife + Barcelona cost?

The cost of a tour in a travel agency in Tenerife with a direct flight for 10 days - from 1500 euros per one. We spent so much for 2. Plus it was an amazing adventure! We didn't sit in the room and on the beach all day.

We spent 4 days in Barcelona (2 days on the way to Tenerife and 2 days on the way back) and 6 days we spent in the picturesque Spanish town of Puerto de la Cruz. We saw and learned so many interesting things.

Costs: about 1500 euros for 10 days for 2:

  • Flight - 300 euros. Purchase of tickets for several months (200 euros for a flight for 2 Kiev - Barcelona - Kiev, company Wizzair, 100 euros for a flight Barcelona - Tenerife - Barcelona, air company).

The Canary archipelago is one of the most popular tourist destinations, which is perfect for an unforgettable holiday all year round. Sandy, wide beaches, volcanic landscapes, hospitable locals and a developed tourist infrastructure make visitors come back here again and again.

Each of the islands of the Canary archipelago has its own flavor and can give all its guests a delightful vacation with a lot of positive impressions.

Today we will talk about the largest island of the Canary archipelago - Tenerife. It covers an area of 2354 sq. km. This small piece of land is so filled with a riot of natural colors, combined with a unique microclimate, that it is called a “continent in miniature”.

The tourist infrastructure on the island began to develop at the end of the 19th century, and the real boom in tourism came in the 1960s. At the moment, tourism for the island is the most important article of the economy and for guests here they try to do everything possible so that they have a good rest and come again later.

Regular flights to Europe are made by many Western and Russian airlines from Moscow.

Tenerife International Airports: Tenerife Norte Airoport 9 km from Santa Cruz de Tenerife (northern airport of Los Rodeos island).

Reina Sofia International Airoport in the south, 60 km from the capital of the island. Direct flights are carried out from Moscow to Tenerife on Fridays to the South Airport (Tenerife Sur), which is located just 20 km from the tourist center of the southern coast of the island - Playa de las Americas. The most popular connecting point is Madrid, during the day the largest number of flights to Tenerife are made from here, including Air Europa, Spanair and Iberia. Regular direct flights to Madrid are operated by Russian airlines S7, Aeroflot and Iberia.

A visa is issued in about 5 working days and costs about $ 41.

  • For adult citizens, you must have a valid passport with you, which must have a blank page for sticking a visa;
  • copies of all pages of the international passport and internal passport;
  • 4 color photographs of 3x4 cm format;
  • copy of marriage or divorce certificate;
  • a copy of all pages of the spouse's or spouse's passport, regardless of whether your "other half" is traveling with you or not;
  • a certificate from the place of work, indicating on the letterhead the address and telephone number of the company, position, salary, as well as information on maintaining a job while on vacation
  • an identification number.

  • a copy of the registration certificate at the Ministry of Statistics;
  • copy of the enterprise license (if the type of activity is licensed);
  • a copy of the work book (all pages with the entry and the last one, where the date of issue of the book is recorded). Each page must be certified by an accountant with the company's seal.

You can rent a car in Tenerife only if the following conditions are met:

  • Mandatory presence of a passport and a valid driver's license;
  • Availability credit card Visa, Mastercard, Amex;
  • When renting an L class (Luxe) car, you must have two credit cards from different banks;
  • Driving experience, at least 1 year;
  • Driver's age is over 25; - the cost includes partial insurance.

The opportunity to rent a car in Tenerife is provided by many companies - this is a very popular service. Here you can find signs for international brands such as Sixt, Herts and Avis, as well as billboards for local car rental companies.

Inspect the car before concluding a lease agreement: be sure to mark the existing "kotski" on the body on a special picture in the contract.

You will come across rental cars immediately at the airport upon arrival, then you can find a rental company near your hotel or meet its representatives at the hotel itself. In general, in any case, you will not be left without wheels, especially if you do not care from whom, for how much and which model of car to rent. The only thing is to take care of renting in August or New Year- for these dates, you should book a car in advance.

It is also necessary to take into account a certain shortage of cars with an automatic transmission. On the island, automatic transmissions are not repaired, so the units must be sent to the continent, as a result of which the distributors prefer not to bother with them.

The price variation of rental cars is different and in most cases is associated with the condition of the car, service, and the presence or absence of a franchise. Car rental companies save on literally everything, which does not have a very good effect on the client. But there is a large selection - and this is the main thing.

If you do not know the language and feel insecure, finding yourself, for the first time, in an unfamiliar country, then there is a round-the-clock support service and car rental with Russian-speaking employees for you.

Now let's talk about whether it is worth booking a car before arriving on the island. On "hot" dates - of course it is, but on ordinary days too. Firstly, you will not waste time upon arrival at the resort, as you will already have a car at hand. Secondly, by booking a car online, you can save a certain amount of money, since many companies offer special rates. Third, it's just convenient. You in advance, without any haste, choose a suitable car model and specify the details of the lease.

Most of the car rental companies have their own websites with English language support.

Rules road traffic are approximately similar to our road traffic regulations. The main principle is orientation to road signs and markings. Signs are abundant here, so you should just look carefully around.

Violation of similar points of traffic rules in Tenerife is punishable by a much larger fine than in our country. It is considered a serious offense not to let a pedestrian ride on a special zebra crossing. Throwing cigarette butts into an open window is also unacceptable, as well as driving on a traffic prohibiting sign, and this is punished at the same rates. Also, you cannot talk on mobile phone and program the navigator while driving. But such minor sins still need to be identified, therefore, according to statistics, the vast majority of fines are issued for violation of the speed limit, both for tourists and locals. Keep in mind that anti-radar detectors are strictly prohibited in Spain and a fine of 6 thousand euros is threatened for their use. Stationary police radar systems are always designated with special road signs seen from afar. There is also a "covert patrol" on the island, therefore, in any case, the speed should not be exceeded.

Speeding Penalty Table from May 25, 2010

Country roads are patrolled by the Civil Guard. The guards are more like the military than the police. Their outfit consists of a green uniform, a cap - "confederate" and boots. The guards move on white-green cars or on motorcycles. In the cities, the police keep order on the roads, patrolling the streets in a white and blue car. It is not customary to stop cars just to check documents here in Tenerife, unless there are raids for drunk drivers, when everyone is slowing down.

What to do if you are stopped for a traffic violation?

First, do not panic, it's okay, the rights will not be taken away. This rarely happens, but with almost every driver. You need to stay in the car and show the following documents to the police officer: driver's license, car insurance and rental agreement. You can make an incomprehensible face and smile confusedly. You must very convincingly show with all your appearance that for the first time you hear about the prohibition of talking on a mobile that you do not know how to use seat belts in principle, and that the speed limit by 50 km / h was only due to the fact that the gas pedal is too sensitive. But with all this one-actor theater, you have to make it clear to the law enforcement officers that you are truly repentant and will never repeat this again. There is no need to try to "negotiate" with the police - they will not understand, as well as to argue with them.

Further, two options are possible: you will be forgiven the first time or you will be fined. In the latter case, you will be asked to give the money on the spot, in exchange for which you will receive a cashier's check, or they will write out a receipt for payment through a bank or post office. There is also a third option - you can transfer money from your credit card at www.dgt.es. If you pay the fine on the spot or within the next few days, you can count on a 50% discount.

A practically Shakespearean question is brewing: to pay or not to pay according to the receipt? You don't have to pay, then they may forget about you soon. Or they may not forget. In this case, you will be included in the "Schengen computer", which threatens to refuse to obtain the next visa, until you pay off the debt to Spain. In general, how lucky.

If suddenly a situation arises that the fine is not issued and the documents are not given, then call the rental office where you rented a car and hand over the phone to the guardians of the law.

Parking

Pay attention to the road markings, do not leave the car on the road, the side of which is marked with a yellow stripe and there is a sign that is familiar to every driver "no parking". The blue stripe indicates that parking in this place is paid. Strip white allows you to park for free, as well as the absence of such. Paying for parking with the help of machines and receipts for the glass is not practiced in Tenerife. Here either you cannot park along the road, or you can park for free. There are paid underground parking facilities equipped with a barrier and payment at the exit. Also, many hotels are equipped with a free parking area for guests with cars.

What if you don't find a parked car?

First, do not be discouraged, even if you have valuable things or a favorite music disc left there. Cars are very rarely stolen here, after all, it's an island, but the interior space of the passenger compartment can be properly cleaned of your things.

Secondly, immediately call the rental company and find out the address of the fine parking lot. Or find a taxi and explain the situation to the driver. Usually taxi drivers know the location of the deposit and can take you there with pleasure. You can pay for the purchase of a car on the spot, it depends on the internal pricing policy of the municipality, the ceiling of which is 100 euros. Well, so that the car is not evacuated, follow the aforementioned parking rules.

The roads in Tenerife are all free and of excellent quality. The southern and northern airports, the main resort of the island of Las Americas, Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz are connected by a large highway stretching along the entire coast. On this route, a speed limit of up to 120 km / h is allowed.

In the interior of the island there are zigzag mountain roads. Slowly driving through them, you can calmly admire the majestic, volcanic landscape.

On the whole island, there is only one relatively difficult road section: in the northwest, between the city of Santiago del Teide and the village of Masca. This is a real mountain serpentine, but not extended, only a few kilometers. Otherwise, moving around Tenerife by car does not cause any particular difficulties. All roads are numbered. The lane number is usually indicated on the kilometer posts located on the side of the road.

There is no motorway in the western part of the island, there is a two-lane road that winds through the mountains and forests. Therefore, it is more pleasant to get from Las Americas to Puerto de la Cruz and other northern towns by the motorway, rounding the island from the east.

Asphalt roads lead to all interesting tourist sites (except for the Lunar Landscape). However, if you decide to turn onto a country road, keep in mind: usually rent cars are not allowed to do this in their cars.

You can buy gasoline in Tenerife for 1 euro per liter (Sin Plomo 95, April 2015), which is cheaper than in mainland Spain. There are many gas stations. The only exception is the central part of the island, where the Teide volcano is located and national park... Therefore, in no case go to the mountains with an empty tank. At self-service gas stations, you must first fill up the tank and then pay. Here you can stock up on all sorts of things, including a map of Tenerife.

There is always good weather on the west and south coast of the island, thanks to the mountain range. Therefore, it is not surprising that most of the resorts are located here. The most popular tourist cluster of Tenerife forms two of the largest resorts: Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje.

The north coast is not very suitable for a beach holiday, but here you can catch that unique atmosphere inherent only in the Canary Islands. Be sure to visit the quiet, calm town of Puerto de la Cruz (not to be confused with the capital of Tenerife - Santa Cruz).

If you are interested in exciting excursions, then pay attention to the capital of Tenerife - Santa Cruz, as well as to five other largest cities of the island, with a rich past.

The main attractions of the resorts of Tenerife

The main attractions of the island's capital are located mainly in the center, near the Plaza de Ispana. This is the Church of St. Francis, built in the 17th century, the Iglesia de Nuestra Senhora de la Concepción church, dating back to the 16th century, the Museum of Archeology and Anthropology, etc. After going to the Plaza Candelaria, you will find yourself on the main pedestrian street of the capital - Calle Castillo. The shopping and tourist life with restaurants, cafes and shops is in full swing here.

To the east of the capital is the village of San Andres, home to the most popular and largest beach in this area of the island. Tourists from Europe and residents of the entire archipelago flock here to soak up the sun on the white sand brought from the Sahara desert.

The capital of Tenerife is also the starting point for various tourist destinations. From here you can go on a journey to the highest point - Anagi, a mountain range, at the foot of which is the village of San Andres. A little north of Santa Cruz is the former capital of Tenerife - La Laguna, which, although it has lost its official status, is still the cultural capital. If you drive away from the capital for a considerable distance, you can find the most famous parrot park in Europe. Also, from Santa Cruz you can go to conquer the Teide volcano, and at the same time walk through the national park located near the foot of the volcano. To the east of the capital is the main religious center of the island - Candelaria and Guimar, with the famous park of the Guimar pyramids. From the capital, you can easily get to the most popular resorts of Tenerife: El Medano, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas, etc.

If you come for a relaxing, family vacation, then you have a direct road to Costa Adaja, the largest and main resort in Tenerife. On the west coast of the resort, you will have a luxurious vacation, but at the same time you will lose a significant amount of your cash. It is calm, tasty, but expensive and there is not much to do here. When staying in Fanabe, you can look forward to a superb beach, mid-range hotels and bustling shopping streets. When heading to the Puerto Colon area, expect round-the-clock, bustling fun, lack of puritanism, and a neighborhood with the gay British.

The island has a well-developed automotive infrastructure that connects the two airports with the capital Tenerife and the Costa Adaje resort.

This resort is the complete opposite of the calm and quiet neighbor of Costa Adeje. Here, after midnight, a lively, boiling nightlife just begins. In general, Playa de las Américas can be called a mid-range resort, with affordable prices for all apartments and hotels. There are only three five-star hotels on the territory of the resort, and even then, only one of them is really such - this is the Europa Villa Cortes hotel.

Playa de las Americas is loved by tourists from Europe and Russia. If you decide to relax at this resort, then for the knowledge of English or Spanish don't worry. Restaurant menus have long been translated into Russian, not to mention travel agencies, where each one has Russian-speaking guides.

It is quite easy to get to the resort by car. The North and South airports are linked to Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas by expressways.

Puerto de la Cruz is a real city with a real history dating back to the Middle Ages. This city has been known since the first half of the 16th century and during its existence managed to acquire its own unique flavor... From the popular sights of the city, several interesting places can be distinguished. For example, Casa de Miranda is an old city mansion owned by Francisco Miranda, the national hero of Venezuela. Check out the local zoo called Loro Parque or stroll through the magnificent botanical garden.

The tourist infrastructure in Puerto de la Cruz is practically absent - there is no place for noisy, nightly fun. Therefore, for young people, rest in this city will be boring. Basically, tourists come here to silently enjoy the contemplation of beautiful landscapes, comfortably sitting at one of the tables of the coastal cafes.

Choosing a hotel shouldn't be a problem either, regardless of your budget. Numerous city hotels will provide simple and comfortable rooms without the overwhelming luxury.

As in most European cities, Puerto de la Cruz has big parking problems. Therefore, before renting a car, ask if there is an available parking nearby. Otherwise, if you leave the car in the wrong place, you will have to pay a large fine. In general, the city is quite small and you can pleasantly walk around it.

If you are traveling by car, you can reach the city by the motorway connecting the northern and southern airports.

Los Cristianos is a small town located in the east of the island of Tenerife and closing a powerful tourist cluster.

The tourist infrastructure is poorly developed here, but this is the main highlight of the city. It is real, with a pronounced Tenerife flavor, authentic culture and identity. Los Cristianos is surrounded by a network of picturesque, narrow and crooked streets, with countless summer restaurants, various shops and small pastry shops.

There is only one hotel on the territory of the old city - Reveron Plaza. There are few vacancies here, so you can rent suitable apartments in the residential sector of the city, since suitable options are presented in sufficient quantity.

The town's most popular attractions are cafés, the evening promenade in the harbor area and the quiet nightlife. Unlike the neighboring resort areas, the nightlife here cannot be called raging; in extreme cases, you can sit late in the half-empty bar.

Getting to Los Cristianos by car is quite easy, thanks to the large expressway that connects the city with two airports.

The village of San Andres is considered small even by local standards and is located in the northeast of the island, 7 km east of the capital Santa Cruz at the very base of Anaga.

On the territory of San Andres there is one of the most beautiful beaches of the entire island - Playa de las Torecitas, photographs of which adorn all the travel guides of Tenerife. The local government took care of the comfortable rest of tourists, creating all the necessary conditions... Playa de las Torecitas beach is one and a half kilometers of white, pleasant sand, imported from the Sahara, with palm trees planted along the coast. The water temperature here is always higher than the average for the island, and all thanks to a stone dam that reliably protects the beach from high waves.

On the waterfront, you can relax in any of the many restaurants offering the gifts of the Atlantic. And, if you are not too lazy and go deep into the village, then you will have a chance to taste a real exotic delicacy, and for a very small fee.

Conclusion

We hope that our article will help you better navigate your first trip to this wonderful island. Well, just in case, let's leave here the numbers of several emergency phone numbers that you may find useful at the resort:

  • national police - 091;
  • local police department - 092;
  • ambulance - 061;
  • fire service - 080.

Enjoy your stay!

Throughout the year, in different parts of Tenerife, colorful romerias are held - religious processions organized in honor of a patron saint. As a rule, holiday carts drive through the streets, from which musicians and participants in the procession are happy to treat passers-by.

On May 3, the city of Los Realejos, after sunset, resembles a city under siege due to the numerous fireworks and fireworks that fly into the air in hundreds. The organizers claim that the local show is one of the best in all of Europe.

The landscapes of the island of Tenerife can be viewed in this video:

In June (dates change from year to year) the amazing Carpet Day takes place in the city of La Orotava. At the same time, the essence of the holiday has nothing to do with real woven carpets. All patterns are made using multi-colored sand. Tourists love to come to see the process of creating unusual patterns and ornaments.

On June 24, it is worth visiting the popular holiday of Saint Juan, when thousands of participants gather on the beaches and after midnight run to swim, as water is believed to have healing powers on this night.

And local shops and malls have big sales. The most significant, summer, begins on July 1 and lasts until last day August.

Photo: Siam mall

Tenerife offers many good opportunities for a quality and enjoyable shopping experience.

First, there are two periods big sales: summer and winter. Summer lasts from July 1 to August 31, and winter begins after the end of the Christmas holidays on January 7 and ends on March 6, shortly before the start of the tourist season.

But besides sales, there are interesting offers.

First of all, shopping lovers are attracted by the so-called "Golden Mile" - the central street in Playa de Las Americas, where most of the shops and shopping centers with clothing and accessories of any price range are concentrated: from budget brands to luxury brands.

In the city of Costa Adeje, there is a new modern Siam mall, where not only shops, but also entertainment for children in the form of playgrounds and attractions.

At the same time, in the capital of the island - Santa Cruz de la Tenerife - there are much more shopping centers, so after a "warm-up" on the coast, shopping professionals go there.

  1. Honey - for many tourists it is an amazing discovery that Tenerife has wonderful apiaries, where delicious honey is produced every year.
  2. Sauces - most dishes have such an original taste that local chefs know how to choose sauces for each of them.
  3. Pearl Jewelery and Souvenirs - Local shops offer fine sea pearl products.
  4. Products or jewelry made of olivine - semi-precious stone, which is in Tenerife as a result of past eruptions of the Teide volcano.
  5. Wine - the island is part of Spain, so on its territory you can find a full range of Spanish wines with different shades and tastes.

Well, for those looking for something old and unique, we recommend visiting the local flea market in Puerto de la Cruz, which is open two days a week in the morning - on Saturday and Wednesday, or in Santa Cruz on Sundays.

Prices

All prices in Tenerife are in Euros. It is best to change currency in advance of the trip, as otherwise the exchange rate will be very unprofitable. Most establishments accept credit cards.

Lunch in a small cafe or restaurant will cost 15-20 euros per person. Cheaper you can eat deliciously in establishments that serve set meals (menu del dia). The cost of such a set is lower - about 10-12 euros. Drinking coffee in a restaurant costs about 1 euro.

Products cost:

Milk 1l - 0.80 euros

Bread - 0.60 euros

Chicken 1 kg - 4.50 euros

Tomatoes - 1.20 euros

Accommodation in a 3-star hotel costs an average of 30-35 euros per person. Hostels provide accommodation cheaper - about 15-20 euros.

Taxi services on the island cost about 15-30 euros, depending on the distance of the route.

On average, 1 day of vacation in Tenerife costs an average of 100-120 euros, including accommodation, meals and sightseeing trips.

What and where to eat

Photo: Original dishes in Tenerife

Despite the fact that Tenerife is part of Spain, the island also has its own special dishes that are difficult to taste on the mainland of the country. We have selected the most delicious and original dishes in Tenerife:

  1. Koneho is a rabbit dish served with one of the local sauces.
  2. Papas is a potato boiled in a peel, but according to a special recipe: this process takes place in very salty water and on low heat. After a long time, the dish is ready. Not everyone likes papas, but it turns out really delicious.
  3. Tortilla is a common dish, but with its own twist: in Tenerife, potatoes, onions, various greens and chopped chorizo sausages are added to it.
  4. Goat cheese - It is eaten raw or added as one of the ingredients. We advise you to order the grilled version sometime.
  5. Padron peppers are fried peppers with garlic and coarse sea salt. Most often they are served as a snack.
  6. Sancocho Canario - boiled fish with sweet potatoes. Seafood on the islands is loved even more than meat.
  7. Vieja is an original parrot fish, whose taste is difficult to confuse with other types of fish. It's a little sweetish.
  8. Canary bananas - They are small in size but very sweet. What is not done with them: they are boiled, fried and added as a side dish to other dishes.
  9. Papaya - despite the fact that it tropical fruit, he took root here and fell in love with locals and tourists.
  10. Koneho al samoreho is rabbit meat marinated in a special sauce, which is then fried and stewed.

All this and much more can be tasted in the most popular restaurants on the island. We have selected establishments with best rating according to tourists' reviews:

Best excursions according to reviews

You can explore the island on your own, but sometimes it is worth contacting professional guides to tell them Interesting Facts, and also took uncharted routes.

  1. Sightseeing - briefly about a little bit of everything to get a general idea of this amazing island, which keeps many secrets and secrets.
  2. Visit the Jolly Roger - a fascinating excursion to real pirate places.
  3. Unexplored Tenerife - there are still places on the island that are hidden from the eyes of curious tourists. That is exactly where we propose to go.
  4. Volcano sunrise - perhaps this sunrise will remain in memory for a lifetime, because not everyone is able to meet the beginning of a new day on the Teide volcano! And while waiting for the first rays of the sun, the participants of the excursion will be able to see the huge starry sky.
  5. Spinning yacht cruise - even novice fishermen will love this offshore trip with the opportunity to personally catch an underwater creature.

See examples of interesting excursions in the video "In Search of Adventure with Mikhail Kozhukhov - Tenerife":

How do we save up to 25% on hotels?

It's very simple - we use a special search engine RoomGuru for 70 services for booking hotels and apartments with the best price.

Bonus for renting apartments 2100 rubles

Instead of hotels, you can book an apartment (1.5-2 times cheaper on average) on AirBnB.com, a very convenient world-wide and well-known apartment rental service with a bonus of 2100 rubles upon registration

Having studied the websites of low-cost airlines, we liked the tickets on the site Ryanair ... It turned out that the cheapest way to organize a trip to Tenerife in March and fly from Warsaw. Therefore, we bought tickets 6-7 months before the planned trip (for 1 person round trip it cost 123 euros).

It is worth noting that if you start inquiring about ticket prices in advance, you are more likely to save money.

We also rented the hotel long before the trip to Bookinge , but with the possibility of canceling the reservation. Therefore, we monitored the situation with hotels on a monthly basis, and we were rewarded for this, we found a hotel for 14 days for 287 euros. The hotel was located in the south of the island, not far from the airport (airport TFS, Tenerife Sur, Reina Sofia), where we flew. In the reviews, they wrote about the minuses of the hotel - the noise of the planes. However, we special attention they didn’t pay attention to it. The only drawback was the room was cool at night.

We lived in Golf de Sur - this is one of the resorts for golfers, although in addition to golf, you can bask in the warm sun, relax and have a great time. A very calm place, there were almost no Russian-speaking tourists, possibly due to the fact that we went out of season.

Probably the only drawback of this place is the rocky beaches. You can see this in the photos below. You can't swim, but sitting on benches or on stones and enjoying the awesome view and surf of the ocean is divine 🙂

Tenerife is a delightful island: high mountains, steep serpentine roads, ocean, interesting and varied nature. Therefore, after reading the advice of experienced people, we have prepared a list of interesting places that we have planned to visit. And since we preferred to spend our vacation actively, we rented a car. This made the rest more comfortable and saved a lot of time.

Rented a car (Opel Corsa) from cicar ... As of March 2015, renting a car cost us 120 euros for 10 days. The car was on the mechanics, if you order an automatic machine, then the cost will be more expensive. The car itself, with gasoline for 20 euros, was driven to the hotel, as we ordered. The process of getting a car itself is simple: in the lobby of the hotel we met with a representative of the company, he gave us documents, keys and insurance, after which the car was at our complete disposal. When they returned the car, they left it in the parking lot at the hotel and gave the keys to the porter. In general, we were satisfied with the car rental. We were given a map of the island and a disc to the car. But, we advise you to have a navigator or a phone with a built-in program, search in advance for the coordinates of the place you need and then travel :). We used Navitel. The roads in Tenerife are good, there are signs and markings everywhere, so you will have to navigate more by them. On the island, you can get lost in the junctions, but in the end, there will be a road. The island is not big enough to get lost. However, even if the navigator does not show road junctions, its help in indicating directions is invaluable.

I repeat, but it is better to book a car in advance on the Internet, since at the hotel we were offered to rent a car, but the price was several times more expensive.

As for the weather, in March in the afternoon it varied from +20 to +28, by the evening it became cooler. And since there is a cool piercing wind near the ocean, and it is fresh in the evenings, it is worth taking a jacket with you. It is also cool in the mountains, and in some places it is foggy 🙂 The water temperature was somewhere around + 18- + 20, so during the day, in the sun, you could swim, but not for long. Although there were enough floating in the ocean 🙂

If we talk about food, then we cooked for ourselves, in the hotel room there was a kitchen with utensils and everything necessary. We bought in the "Mercadona" supermarket chain. This store is famous for its low prices and a variety of essential goods, like Auchan.

Summing up, I would like to say, take the time to thoroughly prepare for the trip, this will save you time and money. And I advise everyone to visit this romantic and calm island, where no one is in a hurry.

This concludes the overview of our independent trip to Tenerife. Ahead are more detailed stories about the various attractions of the island of Tenerife.
