What can you do with a tablet display. On-camera monitor from tablet

Tablets are good not only for weekend viewing of a new episode of your favorite miniseries or fake news on a general Facebook channel. It can also work as a second display.

Two displays for one computer can give you more space to view documents, spreadsheets and web pages. If you already have an Android tablet, why not? It's cheaper than buying an additional monitor and only requires downloading a couple of apps.

There are several applications that do this, but for the purpose of this article, I chose iDisplay because it has options for different platforms.

What you need.

  • Wi-Fi network.
  • Android tablet running under android 2.01 or later, or iPad with iOS 7 or later.
  • PC with operating system Windows XP, Vista, or 7 (32-bit or 64-bit) or Mac with OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later.

1. Installing iDisplay on your tablet.

You can easily find the application in the Play Store (419 rubles) or in Appstore (1490 rubles). Although not free, these apps are cheaper than a new monitor. Once installed and opened, you will see one option - USB connection. (I found this method not working reliably.) To connect via Wi-Fi instead, you must download iDisplay for your computer (see step 2), before showing this option. When connecting via Wi-Fi, you must ensure that both your tablet and computer are connected to the same network.

2. Installing iDisplay on your computer.

iDisplay is available for Windows and Mac and both versions work the same. Once downloaded, you can install the software in just a few clicks. After installation, you will need to restart your computer.

3. Pairing with a tablet.

After rebooting, click on the iDisplay launcher icon. When using a Windows computer, you may be prompted to exclude Windows Firewall. After granting permission and making sure both devices are connected to the same wireless network - you can establish a connection between your tablet and computer.

When you try to connect, a dialog box will pop up and you can either allow iDisplay to connect to the tablet only once, always allow it to connect, or reject it. If you plan to use it frequently, select "always allow".

The tablet app will display a list of devices the tablet can connect to. Select the device you want to pair with, then connect your tablet to your computer.

4. Optimization.

Once connected, you can adjust the display size. On the settings page (the gear icon in the upper right corner of the connection page in the iDisplay app on your tablet), you can choose from four different resolutions. Higher resolution works better on a smaller tablet. (Choosing a lower resolution will display windows with huge text and pictures.)

On a computer, you can also right-click on the system tray icon to close iDisplay or bring up the "Display Arrangement" option, which allows you to choose where you want the tablet to be positioned relative to the main display.

Tablet display performance may vary based on Wi-Fi connection speed (a fast network will improve display responsiveness), processor speed and tablet graphics capabilities.

The tablet is a unique tool that can be used for a wide variety of tasks. Very often, the happy owners of such devices wonder how to use a tablet as a monitor? In some cases, this is very convenient, and you can use the tablet as a monitor both for a PC (especially important if Windows 8 is installed) and for a smartphone. This is exactly what will be discussed in this article.

1. So, is it possible to use the tablet as a monitor

First you need to decide for what purpose this is done. You can use the tablet as a screen extension if the PC video card has this function. In addition, the tablet can act as a primary display. Regardless of your choice, you will need special software to implement this feature. Moreover, you need to install it both on a computer and on a tablet.

It is worth noting that the program is free for a PC, but for a tablet you will have to spend a little. Of course there are free programs, but for correct operation it is better to purchase the paid version. In addition, paid programs have more flexible settings.

Of course, the tablet can be used as a monitor for a smartphone. This is done to improve the comfort and convenience of work. After all, everyone agrees that it is much more convenient to work with big screen tablet rather than a small phone display.

1.1. How you can use your tablet as a monitor

As mentioned above, you need special software. Moreover, the program should be installed on all devices that you want to synchronize.

It should be noted that considering the size of the tablet screens, about 10 ", working with a PC using such devices is rather inconvenient, and you hardly want to work with text or tables in this way. However, for some tasks it is quite convenient and practical. Especially if the connection is made wireless connection... In addition, for the correct display of information, you should set the screen resolution in the PC settings, which will correspond to the supported tablet screen resolution.

So, as you already know, there are many different programs to implement the connection. But regardless of your choice, as well as the tablet used (iPad or Android), the connection principle is the same in any case.

To do this, you need to install the client application on your tablet PC and the server program on your computer. You should also determine which of the monitors will be primary and which will be secondary, as well as whether the tablet will act as a display extension. All this is done in the Windows display settings. It should be noted that in Windows 7 and 8, all settings are set much easier.

It is also worth considering the compatibility of programs in the OS. As a rule, with latest versions Windows (7.8 and Vista) are compatible with almost all programs, which cannot be said about Windows XP.

Using the tablet as a monitor can be done using the following programs:

  • Air Display. The program is compatible with any version of PC and tablet OS;
  • iDisplay, a more affordable and cheaper option softwarewhich is available for both Android and iOS.

These are the two most common and reliable programs. Of course, they are paid, but their cost (about $ 5) is fully justified. The programs work stably and have flexible settings. In addition to them, there are others, but let's look at the connection method using the example of iDisplay. In the case of using other programs, everything is done in the same way.

3. How to use your tablet as a PC monitor

First of all, it should be noted that to wirelessly connect the tablet to a PC, both devices must be connected to the same home network, for example, to one router.

After installing the program on your computer, you will need to restart the system. At this time, you can install the application on the tablet. If the installation was done correctly, then after launching the program on the tablet, you can see a list of computers that have the server part of the iDisplay application installed. To create a connection, simply click on the desired option from the list.

That's all. The connection has been created. An image from the computer should appear on the tablet screen. If you have selected the extended screen, then the application windows can be dragged outside the monitor and they will appear on the tablet screen.

From time to time, many of us need additional screen space to comfortably manage all open windows and perform other tasks. Having a second monitor helps a lot in such situations, but not everyone can afford it, simply because not everyone has free space on their desktop for another monitor. But if you have a tablet, I assure you, the second screen is almost ready to go.

For the lucky owner of an iPad or Android tablet, there are a number of ways to turn a touchscreen device into a second monitor. I note right away that taking into account the average diagonal from 7 to 9 inches, the possibilities when using the tablet as a second monitor will be quite limited, and you hardly want to use it to edit large spreadsheets, for example. However, for certain tasks, a tablet will suffice.

It doesn't matter if you have an iPad or an Android tablet, the process of connecting these devices as a second monitor is no different. You need to install the client application on the tablet, and the server part on the PC. In addition, you need to take care of which monitor will be the primary one.

As I already said, there are several ways to connect a tablet to a second monitor. For example, using the Air Display app, which is compatible with iPad, iPhone and Android. The app is really good, but one with a significant drawback - the price is $ 9.99. However, we will consider a cheaper option, namely iDisplay.

The iDisplay app is available for iOS and Android (will set you back $ 4.99) and the server side is compatible with Windows XP (but only 32-bit) and all windows versions Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. In addition, the tablet and computer must be connected to the same wireless network. I used an iPad for this article, but the installation process is the same for both platforms.

First, download the desktop app (available for free) for Windows. During installation, you may receive a warning that a new display driver is being installed and you will be prompted to restart your computer. While waiting for a reboot, so as not to waste time, you can proceed with the installation mobile application... Here you can buy the version for iOS, and here for Android.

After launching the application on the tablet, a list of computers on which the iDisplay server part was detected will appear on the screen. After clicking on the computer name in the list, the connection will start.

Actually, that's all. If everything is done correctly, an image from the computer will appear on the screen of your tablet. Now you can drag windows off the edge of the monitor and they will appear on the tablet screen.

DIY camera monitor. For only three thousand rubles.

Not because there is no way to buy a normal monitor, but because I like many things and want to do it myself, I decided to make a monitor for the camera with the ability to connect via HDMI.
At first there was an idea to simply connect the tablet to the camera, but the existing interfaces (WiFi and USB) give latency and low resolution in operation. And the HDMI connector existing on tablets can work only as an output, but as an input it will not work. This is not implemented in hardware.

Therefore, I found information that it is possible to connect an HDMI controller directly to the matrix of the tablet, which will work with this matrix and receive a signal via HDMI.

I spent a lot of time choosing a tablet (one of those that can be bought not expensive according to ads). I wanted to get by with the minimum size, but at the same time the maximum resolution. I considered that the size 7 "is ideal, the N070ICG-LD4 matrix is \u200b\u200bIPS, the resolution is 1280 * 800. The most affordable tablet with this matrix is \u200b\u200bTexet TM-7043XD, I bought it for 1tr + delivery from St. Petersburg 200 rubles. He did not work with a touch, but the glass and the matrix itself were intact.

Only the matrix works from the tablet, as the tablet will no longer work, it is powered by the controller. This begs the question: shouldn't I just buy a matrix? It can be found for 500-700 rubles. But the matrix will have to be put somewhere (you need a case) and you need a protective glass (touch screen), so when buying a tablet, we take everything we need at once. In theory, from the battery for the tablet, you can make power for the same monitor (through the driver, step-up voltage, the issue price is 100 rubles), but Canon batteries are more practical, since they can be quickly changed.

For those who need high resolution, I have found such a display only in 10 "" tablets. The most budgetary is Acer Iconia Tab A700 or A701 with a resolution of 1920 * 1200, it can be purchased for about 3000 rubles.

The Chinese sell many controllers for mobile matrices, you need to watch with an LVDS connection! I took this one (having previously written off with the seller about the possibility of flashing the controller for my matrix).

The cost of the controller is about 1500 rubles with delivery. The controller comes with a mini keyboard through which you can select the input and adjust the display (brightness / contrast / color, etc.). I bought it.

Here is such a funny device in the end.

Any power can be attached, I attached an adapter for LP-E6 batteries (popular Canon batteries). One battery lasts for 2 hours of continuous operation.

The fasteners were attached from the Go Pro camera (which was at hand).

I never made a case for the controller, there were no suitable parts, and then it cooled down.

The total price of the issue turned out to be about 3 thousand rubles. I have been using the monitor regularly for a year now (when shooting with a tripod), focusing is very convenient. It looks like this (I have already broken the glass of the wheelbarrow).

The monitor displays everything that is given by the camera via hdmi, my camera (Samsung NX1) has several display modes. It is possible to send a clear signal via hdmi, without service information, or with service information. The camera screen does not turn off when the monitor is connected (camera features), but it can fall asleep if you do not press the buttons on the camera for 30 seconds, external monitor at the same time it still remains active.

There are several applications that turn your Android tablet into an additional touchscreen monitor for your Windows computer. Basically, they work over Wi-Fi, which means both devices must be on the same subnet.

What is it for?

The touchscreen mini-monitor can be used to test the convenience of applications for touch control, it can be used as a terminal for complex "heavy" calculations that the tablet cannot handle, as an application control panel, or a screen for gadgets and statistics.

Apps target Android 3.01 or newer, and Windows XP (32 bit) or Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit).

iDisplay

To install it on your computer, go to the ScreenSlider website and download the program for your OS version. After successfully installing ScreenSlider, its icon will appear in the notification area. If you make a left or right click on the ScreenSlider icon, then no reaction will occur, so launch the application from the "Start" menu.

The Android app is sold on Google Play for $ 0.99 (for informational purposes).

After installation on the tablet, when you first start the application, you will be prompted to enter the device name.

Create a connection

From the ScreenSlider application on the computer, we find our tablet using the link at the top of the "Find Devices" program. If the tablet and computer are on the same network or subnet, and Redfly ScreenSlider is running, then after a few seconds your tablet will appear in the list of available devices with the specified IP address and the name you specified earlier.

Once the tablet has been found, double-click on it. A window with a PIN code will appear on the tablet screen, which must be entered in the connection screen on the computer. After entering the PIN code, click the OK button and from this moment the tablet will work as a second monitor of your computer, in the extended desktop mode.

Settings

By default, ScreenSlider sets the tablet to extended desktop mode and assumes it is to the right of the primary monitor. To change these parameters, launch ScreenSlider on your computer, select the “Settings” menu and here you can change the parameter settings, such as the position of the tablet, etc.
