I will add my own review of the GHA as of May 2017: One child studies there in primary school, SP3 (Building 3), the Elkonin-Davydov program, the second - in secondary school, SP1 (Building 1), the Gloria program.
First, in the beginning: they came from courses, not by registration (registration in another region of the North-Eastern Administrative District), the child went well to the courses, but on the final tests the results showed average. At your own peril and risk, they asked for the gymnasium program ED... Have taken. Now we are very satisfied. The whole team of educators working on system ED - strong professionals who know how to flexibly approach different children, quite demanding, but creative, my child likes to learn (although he is a fidget and sloven). One subtlety - the program is so extraordinary that I will not risk entrusting grandmother with doing homework with the child. My child does the recommended DZ at the extended program and, in general, understands everything himself, the teachers are ready to give explanations to those who are sick, the class as a whole copes with the program, but if suddenly someone is sick for a long time, it will not be easy to catch up. There are no grades up to grade 3 inclusive. In the 1st grade, general marks on understanding different topics and subtopics (pasted into the diary: + / -: did / did not do), then - different tasks for different skills are estimated as a percentage. On the money: In pro-gymnasium classes there are additional paid hours according to the language, they are considered mandatory (conditionally mandatory, the gymnasium recommends taking them). There are no other mandatory paid services.
In high school, everything, in my opinion, is less rosy and unambiguous. My child entered the "Key" Olympiad for the "Gloria" program. We were preparing for about a year to transfer from an ordinary district school.
On the positive side: a good team of students of children (many entered the 5th grade from other schools, the old classes were mixed up, so in the 5th grade everyone got acquainted, in fact, anew). It is not customary to boast about gadgets, parents' income, it is not customary to hammer in studies, to be rude to teachers, and to swear obscenely is also not customary. This is all there, but in a very moderate amount. The boys of the class at recess prefer to play Cossack-robbers, to the horror and indignation of the cleaning ladies. Accordingly, they are adequate and reasonable parents, who also orientate children towards learning and mutual respect. Although, of course, not everything is perfect: one of the senior classes is considered poorly managed and violent, we suddenly began to bait one good boy - the entire parent community, together with the children, tried to sort out the situation.
In addition, on the positive side: strong teaching of subjects of the humanitarian cycle (languages, literature, history, social studies ...). It is here that the most powerful and interesting teachers teach. They are trying to develop the mathematical direction in the gymnasium, but, according to the reviews of parents and their own observations, so far, alas, it is noticeably lagging behind languages. Creative and accessible mathematics does not work - either simple and boring, or prohibitive and difficult (and also boring). But these are my fragmentary observations (and there are also excellent teachers in mathematics in the GHA).
Homework is very voluminous (and this amount is not always justified). In the 5th grade, my rather collected child took from 2 to 3 hours on the DZ, in the 6th grade - usually about 3, sometimes more, up to 4 hours. If there are more sections, muses. school, etc. - you need to very carefully organize the time.
The most serious disadvantage of secondary schools, in my opinion, is the teachers, or rather the general strategy of the administration in relation to the teaching staff. Many parents lead their children to the GHA not just as a strong school, but as a school where the student is treated with respect, where the main ways of motivating the child are not shouting and fear, but interest and personal authority. And at the moment, this is more a myth than reality.
Competence in terms of teaching subjects does not particularly raise questions - everyone passes the material, they write tests. But I was unpleasantly surprised by the teachers who use humiliation, shouting, and direct pressure as the main pedagogical levers. When a child meets such a teacher every school day on a leading subject, this creates a serious emotional background. And, what is most sad, the administration, in principle, is not ready to take such claims to teachers seriously. Fundamental position: "You are not in the store, and teachers are not blouses: This one did not fit, give another one!"
Delegations of parents, consisting of 80% of the group of students in the administration, say: "Your children are inventing everything! ... Well, if you want, we will conduct an open lesson. .... You see - in an open lesson, the teacher is polite, does not shout. Children look intimidated? - so they are parents are shy. So there is no problem! " ("Your children have a massive conspiracy" - the exact words of the teacher).
Of course, the problem is not the same as in school 57, and in general for some of the parents, the rigidity and bias of the teacher as the main tool is normal (otherwise the children will disband), but, I repeat, many (like us) go to the GHA with the illusion that this is not the case here.
There are not many such teachers - there are 2-3 teachers per stream, but with the child's love for one of the leading subjects, you can leave forever.
At the same time, in fairness, it must be said that in the same stream there are 2-3 strong, bright and positive teachers too. And they, by the way, can also instill a love for an important subject, which (to me, my mother) did not occur to love (although, of course, it is necessary to know. Thank you very much for the gymnasiums and teachers!
I understand that in connection with the expansion of the GHA into 11 divisions and the departure of the former director for promotion, the personnel issue for the administration is now very painful and difficult, but if the gymnasium plans to keep the current bar and raise it along with the rating, I think we will have to return to this issue.
With financial levies in high school as well as in the beginning - they are not. Only an additional hour in the primary language is conditionally required. This is about 1,500 rubles. per month. Additional courses can be held on Saturdays when there are no main lessons. For example - 1 hour in language at 9.00. This is, of course, inconvenient. You can also take additional paid courses in other languages, web design.
