What font is needed for the title page.

An abstract is the same scientific work as a term paper or thesis. Therefore, the student must follow the rules of registration.

What to focus on?

  • On the recommendation of the teacher;
  • For training manuals;
  • For GOSTs.

First of all, check if the teacher has any requirements for the design of essays. If they are not there, take a look at the department and take a training manual for the discipline you are interested in. If there is no manual, it is worth moving to state standards. Don't be smart: if the teacher sets his own requirements, focus on them. The rules for preparing an abstract in accordance with GOST should be taken into account only as a last resort, when there are no other sources of information.

What are these GOSTs?

First of all, it is GOST 7.32-2001 ("Report on research work. Structure and rules of execution" /). Since the abstract refers to scientific work, this GOST should be studied and taken as a basis. Pay attention to paragraph 5.3 on abstracts.

Also read GOSTs concerning the design of bibliographic lists. We will consider them - lists, GOSTs and design rules - in another article.

Abstract format

The design of an abstract in accordance with GOST, relevant for 2016, implies:

  1. Printed form. The document should be created on a computer, ideally in Microsoft program Word.
  2. Printout on one side of a sheet. The standard format is A4. We leave the second side of each sheet clean, we do not save paper.
  3. Page margins: left - 30 mm, others - 20 mm each.
  4. Alignment of the text - in width. The red line is drawn up at the same level on all pages of the abstract. The indentation of the red line is 1.25 cm.
  5. Font main text- Times New Roman. Size - 14 p. Color - black. The spacing between the lines is one and a half.
  6. Headers styling. Chapter titles are prescribed in bold (size - 16 p.), subheadings also distinguish in bold (size - 14 p.). If the heading is centered on the page, there is no dot at the end. Underline heading no need! Section and subsection titles prescribe in capital letters(INTRODUCTION, CONCLUSION).
  7. Spacing after titles and subheadings. Between chapter title and the main text needs 2.5 point spacing. Interval between subtitle and the text - 2 p. Between the titles of sections and subsections a double space is left.
  8. Numbering pages. The countdown is from title page, but the sheet itself is not numbered. Arabic numerals are used.
  9. Rules for the design of notes. Notes (edit) positioned on the same page as the footnote.
  10. Registration quotes... They are enclosed in parentheses. Author's punctuation and grammar are preserved.
  11. Numbering of chapters, paragraphs. Chapters are numbered in Roman numerals (Chapter I, Chapter II), paragraphs- Arabic (1.1, 1.2).

Headings, section titles, subheadings are best designed using the Styles and Formatting tool (Menu - Format). In this case, you can arrange the table of contents automatically.

Additional requirements for the design of the abstract in accordance with GOST (for 2016)

pay attention to title page... At the top of it indicate the name of the organization (university) for which the abstract was created. The type and topic of the work are indicated below. Use a large size. Under the topic, on the right, place information about the author and scientific advisor. In the lower part in the center - the name of the city and the year of writing.

There are separate requirements for the design of bibliographic lists, tables, links. You can familiarize yourself with them in separate articles.

Spend an hour studying the standards. This will be useful in the future. But there is an option for lazy students - to evaluate the design of the abstract in accordance with GOST (current for 2016) according to the sample. And if this is difficult for you, and you don’t want to write anything at all, use the help of a studentlancer.
