First, attackers really got access to the victim's SMS messages through the MTS provider.
They could not hack the account because they did not know the password. But on the other hand, there is a security vulnerability in Telegram that allows you to delete an account and open a new one instead only via SMS, which the attackers did (perhaps out of spite).
Telegram representatives have assured that they will close the vulnerability within the next few days.
Unfortunately, due to the high security level of Telegram, it is impossible to recover data in a deleted account.
It is rather strange that last time and this time, hacking of accounts with interception of authorization codes via SMS was carried out using the same mobile operator. “Everyone has already learned: MTS is leaking the correspondence of subscribers to the special services in a regular mode,” says Anton Nosik. - There just sits a specialist from the FSB, who does not need any court decisions or prosecutorial sanctions to read other people's messages. Canceling autoloading files
Telegram transfers files up to 1.5 gigabytes in size, which are cached in the memory of your phone or computer. To prevent the stream of photos, videos and gifs from clogging up the memory, set up autoloading files. Disable autoload completely, only for mobile internet or select unwanted categories: pictures, audio messages, gifs, videos and others.
