Cherry brandy. Cooking cherry liqueur. Rose Cherry Brandy (Cherry Brandy) Cherry brandy

Garden roses are grown not only for admiring flowering bushes. For flower growers keen on floristry, a fundamentally important point when choosing a variety is the suitability of a flower for cutting and creating bouquets. Among cut roses, Cherry Brandy is very popular. Its detailed description, as well as the features of growing cut roses, are discussed in the proposed article.

Other advantages of the variety include:

  • increased resistance of the flower to rain;
  • abundant remontant bloom;
  • good drought resistance;
  • good resistance to fungal infections.

The disadvantage of the Cherry Brandy rose is insufficient winter hardiness. In addition, there is a tendency of the flower to fade in the sun.

Tip # 1. Cherry Brandy rose should not be confused with another German variety - Cherry Brandy 85. This is an earlier variety of the Tantau selection, but its flower has a different color - smoother. Cherry Brandy 85 petals also feature a scalloped edge.

Reviews of rose growers about rose Cherry Brandy

Cherry Brandy variety is quite “young”, but it has already gained popularity among amateur rose growers (Read also article ⇒). Their comments on various forums make it possible to better understand what to expect from this rose:

“Cherry Brandy is in my second year. It was planted last year in violation of agricultural rules, practically in clay. However, I was surprised: it bloomed in a month. Blooming lasted almost all summer. The flower itself is large, double, dense. Stays on the bush for a long time. I didn't cut it. Burnout is noticeable before flowering. The bush survived the winter perfectly. He's definitely not afraid of drought - in the summer he was left without watering for a month, and nothing. Very beautiful foliage - healthy and shiny. This rose reacts vividly to feeding, it grows well after winter " (Elena, Poltava).

“The rose is very beautiful! The color changes from orange to pink, the flower lasts a long time and almost does not fade. Winter is going through normally, under the cover of spunbond and snow. In the spring, it actively starts to grow. It blooms almost without interruption. I am very pleased with the variety! " (Natalia, Moscow region).

“Cherry Brandy strongly picks up black spot, although he sits in a good sunny area. It freezes in winter, but then recovers perfectly from the root. It blooms all summer long, very luxuriantly, so I forgive her all the shortcomings for her beauty " (Olga, Voronezh).

“In our south, the Cherry Brandy flower burns out strongly even in autumn. Moreover, the burnout is noticeable already on the third day, after which the flower lasts for two weeks. I don't like how these burnt-out flowers look against the background of dark green shiny foliage. I spray it against fungi, so the incidence of black spot is not critical - at the end of summer and only on the lowest leaves. The habit of the bush is beautiful and compact " (Ekaterina, Krasnodar).

“Cherry Brandy is a wonderful rose. Leaves are shiny, young shoots are bright and healthy. I have been growing the variety for five years - the bush has never been sick. It can bloom in bouquets of 9-12 flowers. I sit in partial shade, gets the sun in the evening and morning, at noon - a shadow. It burns out little by little, gradually, but I have no complaints about this - I just remove the flowers that have lost their decent appearance. The scent is not strong, but very pleasant. And it is important - it is great in the cut! " (Galina, Moscow).

Thus, all rose growers mark this quality of the Cherry Brandy rose as the long life of the flower. When grown for cut, this is one of the most important properties, and the tendency to fade is not of key importance, since the flower is removed from the bush in the bud or in the half-release stage.

Tip # 2. Cut rose varieties are not recommended for use in landscape design precisely because of their poor color fastness to sunlight. If such a rose is nevertheless planted in a flower bed, it is better to provide it with a light sparse shade.

The correct cultivation of cut roses requires knowledge of some of the features of this process. Below are the advice of A.A. Zaurembekov concerning the technology of industrial cultivation of cut roses, but they are also suitable for private rose gardens:

“It is fundamentally important to carry out work on the care of peduncles. They consist in removing stepchildren from the leaf axils. Too early removal, when the stepchildren are less than 3 cm in length, leads to the formation of new stepchildren and, accordingly, the amount of work on the care of the peduncles increases. Late removal of the stepchildren leads to a waste of the plant. In both cases, the plants lose productivity. "

Thus, it is better not to allow cut roses to branch unhindered, normalizing the number of shoots. In addition, it is recommended to leave only one bud on the stem, and cut off the rest:

“It is advisable to remove the buds at the“ pea ”stage, that is, no more than 5 mm in diameter, since the buds take up a lot of plant energy and photosynthetic products, which significantly reduces the quantity and quality of commercial peduncles."

Caring for cut roses

To keep Cherry Brandy cut roses in a vase for a long time, it is useful to use some general rules:

  • Provide a large surface area that will absorb water. This is done by slanting and splitting the ends of the stems.
  • Reduce water evaporation from sheet plates. This is achieved by removing leaves and thorns from the lower half of the stem.
  • Use a nutrient antiseptic solution instead of water. It is prepared in settled or boiled water, cooled to 20 ° C. In 1 liter, 40 g of granulated sugar and 150 mg of boric acid are dissolved.
  • Change the nutrient solution every three days.To accompany the replacement of the solution, you need to wash the vase and update the cuts of the stems.
  • Spray roses with water.This is done with a spray bottle 3 times a day.

Instead of sugar and boric acid, a special floristic preservative "Tsvetalon" or "Bona Forte" can be added to the water.

Topical questions about rose Cherry Brandy

Question number 1. How to increase the immunity of Cherry Brandy rose to fungal diseases?

This is achieved by timely potash dressings - including potassium humate on the leaf. The drug "Epin-Extra" stimulates immunity well. It is also important to cut off diseased and dry shoots in time. Besides the sanitary function, such pruning improves the light regime and increases the efficiency of photosynthesis.

Question number 2. Should I prune my Cherry Brandy rose for the winter?

You need it like any other hybrid tea rose. After pruning, the bush is sprayed with a copper-containing preparation, covered with dry foliage and an air-dry shelter is built on top.

And even if you don’t have a garden ... now cherry season is in full swing, in any market and in supermarkets it is in great abundance.

I propose to try a new recipe - cherry brandy liqueur, which is expensive in wine departments, but even the laziest housewife can easily prepare it.
It is a digestif, a drink that improves digestion. The digestif is served at the end of a dinner party in thin-stemmed glasses. It goes well with coffee, complements the taste of fruits and ice cream.
Ideal base for impregnating biscuit cakes and as a separate ingredient in any sweet baked goods.

I prepare liqueurs and liqueurs in sulia - this is how thick-walled vintage-style bottles are called in Ukraine. And my sulias are practically antique of the early twentieth century, because I inherited from my great-grandmother, who prepared a huge amount of tinctures from her garden and rub from medicinal herbs.
If you do not have such a large bottle, make liquor in any container, even in a three-liter can, but with a smaller dosage of products.

We put cherries in a bottle. Sprinkle with sugar. The amount of sugar varies depending on the sweetness of the cherries.
To be honest, I have sugar in the photo for show, I poured cherry syrup, which remained in large quantities after cooking the jam.
Whether or not to leave seeds in cherries is a fierce debate among experienced moonshiners.
Decide for yourself.
Cherry pits contain hydrocyanic acid, which can cause poisoning. But it is dangerous in pitted jams if they have been stored for years.
The liquor is infused for a month and a half, then cherries are removed from it. Cherry brandy can be stored for a long time. He, like cognac, only gets better over the years.
The pith of the stone gives the liquor a tart astringent flavor and nutty flavor.
If it seems to you that one bottle of alcohol is not enough, you can add more to your taste) but cherries in sugar will quickly give juice, there will be more liquid in a couple of hours naturally.

Add lemon zest, cinnamon, cloves. Nutmeg if you want to enhance the richness of the flavor.
Fill the cherries with alcohol.
I chose vodka in a beautiful bottle))) I do not understand the producers, I recognize it only as a fertilizer for cut roses and a base for liqueurs.
But I know that vodka goes well with cherries.
Rum adds sweetness to the liquor.
Cognac gives the cherry an almond flavor.
Average strength of the liqueur is 30º.
If you do not want the liquor to be very strong, you can lower the degree by adding some pure water.
Before closing - try it.

Cap the bottle well.
I didn't find a corncob for complete authenticity, I had to use a rubber glove

Leave the sealed bottle in a sunny place for one week.
Then transfer to a cool, dark place. My preservation is in the basement, and my great-grandmother kept her liqueurs either in the basement, or on the balcony or under the bed.
The liquor must rest for at least 40 days. After this time, take out the bottle, taste the drink.
If you like the taste, strain the liquor through several layers of gauze, pour into dry bottles and consume with a clear conscience!
But remember - there are as many as 260 calories hidden in one serving (30 ml)!

Notes.
Burnt sugar syrup.
Burn the granulated sugar in a cast-iron skillet until it is dark yellow. Then we take not by weight, but by volume (!) 50% sand and 50% water, mix in a saucepan and cook until it thickens. You can make a more concentrated syrup by making the sugar-water ratio 75% to 25%.

Some of the ingredients for the above cocktails.

Kirsch or Kirschwasser. Literally cherry water.

Kirsch is essentially a cherry brandy, a colorless pure cherry distillate. However, it is traditionally considered a special drink that differs from other fruit brandies. Mostly it is made in Alsace and Franche-Comte in the east of France, where, without a doubt, winemakers are well versed in their business. A very peculiar kirsch is also produced in the Black Forest, in western Germany. Hence the German name - Kirsch, which means "cherry".

Blue Curacao (Blue Curaçao) is a blue orange liqueur (less often red, orange and green), with an alcohol content of 21-30% from different manufacturers.

Rose variety Cherry Brandy was bred in the famous Rosen Tantau nursery in Germany. It appeared at the official exhibition and on sale in 2004. According to the international classification, this variety belongs to hybrid tea roses.

Description of the variety

Rose Cherry Brandy differs from other roses by its unusual color of petals. Inside, the petals are orange, smoothly turning into pink or wine color. Very often, the edges take on the shape of waves, thereby resembling lace. Under good conditions and proper care, the bush blooms from late June until the first frost.

The bud is dense, has a light fruity smell. Its shape resembles a glass with 45 terry leaves. The diameter of each flower reaches 10 cm.

Rosebud Cherry Brandy

The bush is decorative, erect, grows up to 1.2 m, in girth - up to 0.7 m. The leaves are dense, leathery, dark green in color. Each stem blooms from 1 to 3 buds, and, remarkably, there are practically no thorns on the branches.

Important! This variety of roses is very fond of moist and drained soil.

Correct planting of a seedling

After purchasing a seedling, it is necessary to cut each root tip by a couple of centimeters and only then put it in water (add any stimulant for root growth to the liquid). It is necessary to cut off the buds, leaves and thin branches from the bush so that only a few main stems remain.

It is necessary to plant the plant in the soil warmed up by the sun without the presence of shade and draft.

Disembarkation period:

  • autumn - until frost -7 ° С;
  • spring - at soil temperatures from +6 to +11 ° С.

The hole must be 10 cm wider than the size of the plant, the depth is about 25 cm. The roots must be free. It is important to drain gravel and sand. It is necessary to sprinkle the roots with manure, a fertile layer, sand, peat in a ratio of 3 x 2 x 2 x 1. The best period for planting a seedling is May, when the soil is warm enough.

Important! The rose does not like abundant watering, so it is necessary to ensure that there is no stagnant water.

At first, the bushes need to be watered regularly (a week - 1-2 times, a bucket of water per bush), if the season is dry - 2-3 times, 1.5-2 buckets of water, feed (in spring and mid-summer) and weed.

Cherry Brandy's Stepsons

Care features

The stems need to be taken care of. It is necessary to pluck out stepchildren from the cavity of the leaves in time, because if they increase by more than 3 cm, the bush becomes weaker, and this can lead to the presence of several weak buds on one stem. It is also necessary to monitor the branches of the rose and to split off unnecessary ones in time. One shoot is enough on each stem.

Like any tea rose, in winter the bush is cut and sprayed with a copper-containing preparation. After - fall asleep with foliage and wrap. In such conditions, the seedling can withstand temperatures down to -29 ° C. In case of freezing of the kidneys, they are easily restored in the spring.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Rose Cherry Brandy has the following advantages:

  • resistance to rain;
  • abundant, continuous and long flowering;
  • good drought tolerance;
  • resistance to fungal and infectious diseases.

Note!Cherry Brandy is a cut rose and is not recommended for use in landscape design.

The color of the flower does not tolerate direct sunlight, therefore, when planting it in a flower bed, you should take care of the presence of a light shade. This is perhaps the only drawback of the flower.

On the garden plot, the rose will look harmoniously both as a single bush and in combination with other flowers. There are few flowers that can compete with the unique color of the rose. Its color scheme is unique, as it includes several shades at once. In addition to its color, the rose has a special scent. Fruit and honey notes are very reminiscent of cherry liqueur.

When talking about roses, epithets are often used: extraordinary, unsurpassed, amazing. Sometimes they are justified, quite often they are a kind of advance payment. In the case of our heroine, with whom we will now introduce the reader, such praises are more than appropriate and fair. This variety really belongs to the elite, both in appearance and in origin, popularity.

History of creation

The variety was bred in Germany, in the famous, if not legendary, nursery "Rosen Tantau", and received the registration name "TAN01693". The nursery was organized back in 1906 by Matius Tantau Sr., since 1985 it became owned by Hans-Jürgen Evers, and is rightfully considered one of the most titled, respectable rose-growing centers in Europe.

In many reference books you can find information that the Cherry Brandy rose was bred in 2004. In fact, that year it appeared at the official exhibition and went on sale. And the specialists of the nursery brought it out three years earlier. Moreover, the new variety has become a kind of continuation of the previously existing varieties of this company under the same name! We will briefly talk about them a little later.

Description of appearance

This flower belongs to an extensive group of hybrid tea roses. She has a strong, sturdy bush, reaching a height of one meter. The big advantage is the absence of thorns on the shoots. The crown of the bush is compact, neat, and the leaves are dark green, dense, leathery, which are an additional decoration of the variety.

Undoubtedly, the main advantage of every rose is its flowers. In our heroine, they are large, about 10 cm in diameter, double, single or collected in small inflorescences of 3-5 pieces. The number of petals reaches 45.

Interesting! The inner petals always have wavy edges, sometimes they are even slightly cut, as if fringed. This increases the visual effect of terry, makes it look like lace.

The shape of the flower is a little unusual: even when it blossoms, it remains dense, goblet, especially in the central part. But the main highlight lies in the color of this rose! There are not so many other roses that can compete with her in the complexity and beauty of coloring.

The fact is that its color range is complex and unique, consisting of several shades. The inner side of each petal is apricot yellow, sometimes almost coppery, while the outer side is lighter, orange. To top it off, the edges of the petals are colored more intensely than the middle, they are almost garnet. This elusive play of hot tones, and even against the background of dark, textured leaves, makes Cherry Brandy a real beauty!

The scent of flowers complements the beautiful picture: not strong, but perceptible, with fruity and honey notes. It really resembles the aroma of a good cherry liqueur.

Other roses with a similar name

We have already said that the variety under consideration here continues a certain line of roses bred in the Rosen-Tantau nurseries. It would be fair and useful to at least mention them.

1966 Cherry Brandy

This is the first rose with this name, which appeared in Tantau, when the nursery was still managed by Matius Jr. Now it is practically not found on the market, having remained, probably, only with individual collectors. A hybrid tea rose of intense orange color, with the same strong scent. The flowers are small, with 17 - 25 petals (semi-double). The variety at one time gained great popularity in Australia, where, by the way, it was first presented at the exhibition.

1985 Cherry Brandy

But this variety is still in service, and is popular! Not to be confused with our heroine, you should know that her registration name is “TANryrandy”. It also looks very much like the rose described here, the differences are only as follows.

  • The flower is smaller, the number of petals is 10-15 less.
  • The waviness of the petals is not so pronounced. In general, these two factors make the flowers look less lush.
  • The bush is less compact, slightly higher than ours.
  • The color of the leaves is lighter.

Characteristic technical features of the variety

The rose is resistant to common diseases, relatively unpretentious in care, within the power of novice gardeners. Frost resistance is high, in temperate latitudes it requires only partial pruning for the winter, but in case of freezing of the buds, it quickly recovers in the spring.

Flowering is long, almost continuous, from the end of June until the very frost. Prefers well-lit places, the appearance of flowers does not deteriorate from rain. Flowers open slowly and not amicably, so the flowering bush always looks elegant.

Use cases

On a garden plot, it can act as an independent, accentuated plant, but also harmoniously fit into a group of plants. It goes well with roses, the color of which is softer, calm. Often, Cherry Brandy is grown for cutting: it stands in water for a long time, keeping freshness.
