Until what date to read the Easter canon. Explanatory Orthodox prayer book. How is the Divine Liturgy on Easter?

The central hymn of Paschal Matins is undoubtedly the canon of Holy Pascha, composed by the most famous theologian and hymnographer of the Orthodox Church, St. John of Damascus (8th century). Priest Mikhail ASMUS, teacher of PSTGU, tells about the main ideas of the Easter canon, dressed in enthusiastic poetic clothes.

Christ is the new Easter

Although the hymnographic genre of the canon, to the formation of which the Monk John weightily put his miraculously healed hand, is closely connected with biblical songs, in the case of the Paschal canon we have an example of a more free relationship with these songs. Moreover, according to the Charter, as an exception, the canon of Paschal Matins is performed without them: instead of the Old Testament verses, before the troparia of the canon, the most ancient troparion of Pascha “Christ is risen from the dead ...” (among the Greeks) or its first phrase (among us) sounds.

The theme itself prompts such an attitude towards the Old Testament text: in the Resurrection of Christ from the dead, the New Testament began to operate, i.e., the "Contract" foretold by the Lord at the Last Supper and consisting in the fact that He sacrifices Himself for the sins of the world, and people are saved by following the gospel of love He preached. Therefore, everything of the Old Testament, even the most important, such as Easter, fades into the background, becoming only a shadow of the salvific reality that has come.

In the very first irmos, St. John begins to explain the new content of the feast of Pascha, proceeding from the stable interpretation of the word "Easter" as a translation, that is, "translation" (Synaxarion of Pascha): Resurrection day, let us enlighten people! Passover of the Lord! Easter: from death to life and from earth to heaven, Christ God has forewarned us, singing victoriously. - "Easter, because Christ God has translated us, who sing (now the song) of victory, from death to life and from earth (low life according to the flesh) to Heaven (exalted spiritual life)."

And in the 1st troparion of the third song it is said that all the necessary attributes of the Old Testament Paschal lamb: perfect, male, immaculate ( Ref. 12:5) - fully manifested in Christ: male sex - as if opening the virgin womb, Christ appeared; like a man (Greek mortal) is called a lamb; blameless - as if tasteless of filth, our Easter; and as the true God, he is perfect in speech. - “As having opened (in His birth) the womb of the Virgin, Christ appeared as a male being; but as a mortal being, he was called (by John the Baptist) a lamb; He, our Paschal (meal), as not involved in filth, is called immaculate, and as the true God - perfect.

For the interpretation in the next troparion of the last indispensable attribute of the Paschal lamb - one-year-old ( Ref. 12:5) - the songwriter uses the concept of the blessed crown of the goodness of God, as the annual cycle is called in the church language, and the Christmas image of the Sun of Truth in relation to the risen Christ: Like a one-year-old lamb, the blessed crown of Christ (in Greek good), by will for all was slain, Easter cleansing; and packs from the coffin of the red truth, the sun rises to us. - “Like a one-year-old lamb, (Christ, who became) for us (as if the only) blessed crown of goodness (of God), voluntarily gave Himself to be slaughtered for all (becoming not only) Easter, (but also) a cleansing sacrifice; but the Sun of righteousness has shone again for us from the tomb.” In retelling, this should be understood as follows: the “one year” of the Savior’s earthly life ended with His death on the Cross, but in the Resurrection a new “year” of His existence begins for us — in our following the path of His righteousness.

The opposition between the old and the new reaches its greatest tension in the last troparion of the third ode: God-father David, playing galloping before the hay ark; but the people of God are holy, seeing the images of the reality, we rejoice divinely: as Christ is risen, as omnipotent. - “(Once) the ancestor of God in the flesh, King David, galloped in a dance in front of the ark (of the Old Testament, which was only) a shadow (of the New); but we, the holy people of God, seeing (before us) the incarnation of the (Old Testament) types, let us express our joy in a God-worthy way: for (ours Himself) the all-powerful King, Christ, has risen.”

And despite the fact that Rev. John passed his monastic career not far from Jerusalem, in the Lavra of St. Savva the Sanctified, for him, as a Christian, the holy capital of Judea, which became the scene of the most important evangelical events, is in the irmos of the 9th song nothing more than a prototype of the new Jerusalem - the Holy Church of Christ: Shine, shine, new Jerusalem: the glory of the Lord is exalted upon you. Rejoice now and rejoice, Sione. You, Pure One, show off, Mother of God, about the uprising of Your Nativity. - “Penetrate with light, new Jerusalem: for the glory of the Lord has shone in you. Rejoice and rejoice today and you, (holy mountain) Zion (old Jerusalem). Rejoice, O Pure Mother of God, on the resurrection of Your Son.”

Luminous night

We learn about how the Holy Church is imbued with the light of the Resurrection from other places in the Paschal Canon, which contain a description of Paschal Matins itself, the only one of its kind in the liturgical year. Although, according to the ancient church charter, the celebration of Easter began with Vespers, combined with the Liturgy of St. Basil the Great, but thanks to the influence of the monasteries, it was this early Paschal matins that eventually became associated with the meeting of the very moment of the Bright Resurrection of Christ:

Let us cleanse our senses and see the shining light of the resurrection of Christ shining, and “rejoice” saying clearly, let us hear, victorious singing. “Let us purify our senses so that we can see Christ shining with the impregnable light of the resurrection, and hear Him clearly say: “Rejoice!”, singing (to Him) victorious hymns” (1st troparion of the first song).

Now all is filled with light: the heavens and the earth and the underworld: let all creation celebrate the resurrection of Christ, and it is affirmed in it. - “Today everything has been filled with (blessed) light: Heaven, earth and the underworld (afterlife); let all creation celebrate the resurrection of Christ, in which it received strong support” (1st troparion of the third song).

The ancient custom of plentiful illumination of temples and the city on Easter night, candles burning in the hands of people, cause the hymn singer to associate with the parable of the Ten Virgins, especially since not all people were ready to wait for Easter conversations until the morning, as the monks did: Christ from the tomb, like a bridegroom, and let us celebrate the liturgical rites (more correctly, the liturgical rites) of God's saving Pascha. - “Let's come, holding lamps in our hands, to Christ, coming out of the grave, like a bridegroom (from the chamber. - Matt. 25:6), and we will celebrate together with the hosts of lovers of holidays (monks) the saving Pascha of God ”(2nd troparion of the fifth song).

But the same custom also symbolizes the fullness of the entire universe with the light of Christ: It is truly sacred and all-celebrating this saving night and the radiant, luminous day of the rise of the essence of the herald, in it the flightless light from the tomb carnally ascends to all. “Oh, how truly sacred and all-holiday this saving and luminous night is, being the herald of the luminous day of the Resurrection, on which the Light (Christ) not bound by time frames shone tangibly for everyone from the grave!” (3rd troparion of the seventh song).

Fruits of the Resurrection

In the canon of the Resurrection, of course, there is a place both for the description and for the theological assessment of the accompanying events. However, the author stops Special attention on those of them that were not included in the canonical Gospels, in particular on the descent into hell: Your immeasurable beneficence with hellish bonds of content is sighted, to the light go, Christ, with merry feet, praise eternal Easter. “Seeing your, O Christ, immeasurable kindness, the prisoners of hell hurried with a cheerful step towards the light, applauding for eternal deliverance” (1st troparion of the fifth song). You descended into the underworld of the earth and crushed the eternal faiths containing the bound, Christ, and three days, like from the whale Jonah, you resurrected from the tomb. - “You, Christ, descended into the lowest parts of the earth (the mythological place of the afterlife) and crushed there the eternal constipation that held the prisoners, and like Jonah from the whale, rose on the third day from the grave” (irmos of the sixth song).

The miracle of the descent of Christ from the tomb with a rolled stone, unknown to us from the canonical Gospels, is connected by a songwriter from Damascus with another no less mysterious miracle - the birth from the Virgin: Thou hast opened the gates of Paradise for us. - “You, Christ, have risen from the grave, keeping the seal unbroken (attached by the high priests), just as you did not damage the bolts of virginity (the Mother of God) at the birth, and (taking advantage of the ability to pass through closed doors) opened the doors of paradise for us” (1st troparion of the sixth songs).

Adam symbolically participates in the Resurrection of Christ as the ancestor of all mankind: My Savior, a living and non-sacrificial slaughter, as God, by His own will brought the Father, Thou hast resurrected the all-born Adam, resurrected from the tomb. - “My Savior, You, according to the Godhead, being alive and not being sacrificed as a sacrificial animal, but having voluntarily sacrificed Yourself to the Father, (as a result) resurrected with You the universal ancestor Adam, resurrecting from the grave” (2nd troparion of the sixth song ).

The manner in which the resurrection is communicated to all mankind, St. John describes in the irmos of the seventh song: Delivering the youths from the furnace, having been a man, suffers like a mortal, and splendor will clothe the mortal passion in incorruption ... - “He who delivered the three youths from burning in the furnace, having become a man, suffers suffering as a mortal and in ( this very) suffering clothes the mortal (human nature) in the beauty of incorruption…”

The content of the feast of Christian Easter is briefly summarized in the 2nd troparion of the seventh ode: We celebrate the mortification of Death, hellish destruction, a different life of the eternal beginning, and we playfully sing Guilty ... - “(Today) we celebrate the mortification of death itself (its inability from now on to have a destructive effect on a person) , the abolition of hell (as a place of forced residence of the souls of all the dead), the beginning of a different, endless life, and with jubilation (literally with dancing) we sing the Culprit (of all this - Christ) ... ".

Communion to the Kingdom

The last important theme that runs through the entire canon of Pascha is every person who lives through these holy days in the temple and yearns to partake of the grace of the Resurrection: Yesterday I was buried with Thee, O Christ; I crucified you yesterday, glorify me yourself, Savior, in your kingdom. — “Yesterday (on Great Saturday morning) I was buried with You, and today I resurrect with You resurrected; yesterday (on Great Friday) I was crucified with You, and (today) You Yourself, Savior, glorify me (together with You) in Your Kingdom.

Like Chrysostom, the compiler of the catechetical Word, which has been announcing for 15 centuries every Orthodox church on Easter night, St. John in the 1st troparion of the eighth song invites everyone, without exception, to partake of the Kingdom of Christ through the adoption of the law of Gospel love: Come new grapes of birth, divine joy, on the deliberate days of the resurrection, the Kingdom (in Greek) of Christ we will partake ... - “On the auspicious day of the Resurrection let's taste the grapes of the new harvest - divine favor (to each other) - and become partakers of the Kingdom of Christ ... "

The promise of Christ not to leave His disciples until the end of time, given on Mount Ascension ( Matt. 28:20), becomes the stronghold of the life of a Christian in the Risen Christ: O divine, o dear, o sweetest voice of yours: with us it was not false that you promised to be until the end of the age, Christ, whose faithful statement (more correctly - anchor) hope we rejoice. “O divine, o amiable, o sweetest Your exclamation! For indeed You have promised to be with us until the end of the age, O Christ, which (promise) having, like an anchor of hope, we abide in joy” (1st troparion of the ninth song).

In the final troparion of the Paschal Canon, the illustrious theologian, overwhelmed by divine delight, even dares to look into our future life with God: O great and most sacred Pascha, Christ, about Wisdom and the Word of God and Power: grant us truly to partake of Thee in the never-ending days of Thy Kingdom. - “O Christ, great and most sacred (our) Easter, Wisdom (of God), Word of God and Power (of God): grant us in the never-ending day of Your (future) Kingdom more clearly participate in Your being.” Indeed, the feast of Holy Pascha, standing apart from a number of other great feasts, has a special eschatological perspective, reminding us of the purpose of our earthly existence and generously revealing to us the veil of future blessedness in Christ.

Prayers for Holy Communion

And the verses:
Although eat, man, the Body of the Lord,
Approach with fear, but do not sing: there is fire.
Drinking the Divine Blood for fellowship,
First, reconcile thee to those who grieve.
The same daring, mysterious brashno yazhd.

Other verses:
Before the sacrament of the terrible sacrifice,
Life-Giving Body Lord,
Sim pray in an image with trembling:

Prayer 1, Basil the Great
Master Lord Jesus Christ, our God, the Source of life and immortality, of all creatures, visible and invisible to the Creator, of the beginningless Father co-eternal with the Son and co-originating, for the sake of goodness in the last days, clothed in the flesh, and crucified, and buried for us, ungrateful and evil-minded, and Yours Renewing our nature corrupted by sin with blood, Himself, the Immortal King, accept my sinful repentance, and incline Your ear to me, and hear my words. I have sinned, O Lord, I have sinned against heaven and before You, and I am not worthy to look at the height of Your glory: I have angered Your goodness, transgressing Your commandments, and not listening to Your commands. But You, Lord, who are not malice, long-suffering and many-merciful, did not betray me to perish with my iniquities, expecting my conversion in every possible way. You said, O Lover of mankind, your prophet: as if by desire I do not want the death of a sinner, but I will turn and live to be him. Do not wish, O Lord, to destroy Your hand in creation; below, you favor the destruction of mankind, but you wish to be saved by everyone, and come to the understanding of truth. The same and az, if I am unworthy of heaven and earth, and sowing temporary life, obeying sin all to myself, and enslaving with sweetness, and desecrating Your image; but having been Your creation and creation, I do not despair of my salvation, accursed, daring to Your immeasurable goodness, I come. Accept me, O Lord of mankind, like a harlot, like a thief, like a publican and like a prodigal, and take my heavy burden of sins, take the sin of the world, and heal human infirmities, call and give rest to those who are laboring and burdened to You, who did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. And cleanse me from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, and teach me to perfect the sanctity in Your fear: as if by the pure knowledge of my conscience, I receive a part of Your holy things, I am united to Your holy Body and Blood, and I have You living and abiding in me, with the Father, and your Holy Spirit. Yes, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, and let the communion of Your most pure and life-giving Mysteries not be in judgment, let me be weak in soul and body, from which I am unworthy to partake, but give me, even to my final breath, uncondemnedly perceive part of Thy holy things, in the Holy Spirit communion, in the guidance of the eternal belly, and in a favorable answer to Thy terrible judgement: as if with all Thy chosen ones, I will be a sharer of Thy incorruptible blessings, even if You have prepared for those who love Thee, Lord, in them Thou hast been glorified in eyelids. Amen.

Prayer 2, Saint John Chrysostom
Lord, my God, we know that I am worthy, I am satisfied below, but under the roof of the temple of my soul, I’m all empty and eaten, and don’t have a place in me worthy to bow my head: but for the sake of us from the height you humbled yourself, humble yourself and now my humility; and as if you took it in the den and in the manger of the wordless near, take it and in the manger of my wordless soul, and enter into my defiled body. And as if you did not deign to enter, and candles from sinners in the house of Simon the leper, so deign to enter into the house of my humble soul, lepers and sinners; and as if you did not reject a harlot and a sinner like me, who came and touched You, have mercy on me, a sinner, who comes and touches You; and as if you did not disdain her filthy lips and unclean ones that kiss Thee, below my filthy lips and unclean ones, below my vile and unclean lips, and my filthy and uncleanest tongue. But let the coal of Your most holy Body and Your precious Blood be mine, for the sanctification and enlightenment and health of my humble soul and body, for alleviating the burden of many of my sins, for observance from every devilish action, for driving away and forbidding my evil and crafty custom, into the mortification of passions, into the provision of Thy commandments, into the application of Thy Divine grace, and appropriation of Thy Kingdom. Not as if I despise I come to You, Christ God, but as if daring for Your inexpressible goodness, and may I not move away from Your fellowship, I will be hunted by the mental wolf. The same I pray to You: as the only Holy One, Lord, sanctify my soul and body, mind and heart, wombs and wombs, and renew all of me, and root Your fear in my hands, and create Your sanctification inseparably from me; and be my helper and intercessor, nourishing my belly in the world, vouchsafe to me and at the right hand of You the presence with Your saints, prayers and prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, Your immaterial servants and most pure powers, and all the saints who have pleased You from time immemorial. Amen.

Prayer 3, Simeon Metaphrastus
The only pure and incorruptible Lord, for the inexpressible mercy of philanthropy, our all perceptible mixture, from pure and virgin blood more than nature, who gave birth to Thee, the Divine Spirit by the invasion, and the good pleasure of the Father, the eternal, Christ Jesus, the wisdom of God, and peace, and strength; By your perception, life-giving and saving suffering perceived, cross, nail, spear, death, kill my soulful bodily passions. By your burial of the hellish captivating kingdom, bury my good thoughts with crafty advice, and deceive the evil spirits. By your three-day and life-giving resurrection of the fallen forefather, raise up me who crawled with sin, offering me images of repentance. By your glorious ascension, deifying the perception of the flesh, and by this right hand of the Father by the graying of mail, make me worthy of receiving the right part of those saved by the communion of your saints. With the descending of the Comforter of Your Spirit, the sacred vessels are honest, Your disciples have made, friend, and show me That coming. Although you should come again to judge with the universal truth, deign to make me meet Thee in the clouds, the Judge and Creator of mine, with all Thy saints: yes, I will endlessly glorify and sing of Thee, with Thy Father without beginning, and Thy Most Holy and Good and Life-giving Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 4, his
As if on Your Terrible and impartial, stand the Judgment Seat, Christ God, and raise condemnation, and create a word about the evil I have done; now, before even the day of my condemnation comes, at your holy altar standing before you and before your terrible and holy angels, bowed from my conscience, I bring my evil and lawless deeds, reveal this and rebuke. See, O Lord, my humility, and forgive me all my sins; see, as if the hair of my head were multiplied more than my iniquity. What harm did not do evil? What sin have I not committed? What evil can I not imagine in my soul? Fornication, adultery, pride, arrogance, reproach, blasphemy, idle talk, incomparable laughter, drunkenness, guttural intoxication, gluttony, hatred, envy, love of money, covetousness, covetousness, self-love, love of glory, theft, unrighteousness, mischief, jealousy , slander, lawlessness; I created every feeling and every spirit of the defiled, corrupt, indecent, being the worker of the devil in every possible way. And we know, Lord, that my iniquities have surpassed my head; but there is an immeasurable multitude of Thy bounties, and the mercy is inexpressible Thy innocence of goodness, and there is no sin in conquering Thy philanthropy. The same, wonderful King, gentle Lord, surprise me, a sinner, with Your mercy, show Your goodness of strength and show the strength of Your compassionate mercy, and turning accept me a sinner. Accept me, as if you accepted a prodigal, a robber, a harlot. Receive me exceedingly, both in word and deed, and in placeless lust, and in wordless thought, having sinned against You. And as if at the eleventh hour you received those who came, who did nothing worthy, so accept me, a sinner: many have sinned and defiled, and saddened Your Holy Spirit, and grieved Your human-loving womb and deed, and word, and thought, in the night and in days, manifested and unmanifested, willingly and unwillingly. And we know, as if you imagine my sins before me, these are the ones that I have done, and have a word with me about their unforgiven sins. But Lord, Lord, let not Thy righteous judgment, rebuke me with Thy fury, punish me with Thy anger; have mercy on me, Lord, for I am not only weak, but I am also Your creation. You, O Lord, have established Your fear on me, but I have done evil before You. I have sinned against you alone, but I pray you, do not enter into judgment with your servant. If you see iniquity, Lord, Lord, who will stand? I am the abyss of sin, and I am not worthy, below I am pleased to look and see the heights of heaven, from the multitude of my sins, there are no number of them: every crime and deceit, and trickery of Satan, and corruption, malice, counseling to sin and other dark passions are not bored of me. Kiimi bo did not corrupt sins? Kiimi not kept evil? Every sin I have committed, every impurity I have put into my soul, is indecent to You, my God, and to man. Who will raise me up, into the evil and a fraction of the fallen sin? Lord my God, I put my trust in You; If there is hope for my salvation, if Your love of mankind conquers the multitude of my iniquities, be my savior, and according to Your mercies and Your mercy, weaken, leave, forgive, all of us, the fir-tree of You have sinned, as my soul was filled with many evils, and carry in me salvation of hope. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and do not reward me according to my deeds, and do not judge me according to my deeds, but turn, intercede, deliver my soul from the evils that grow with it and fierce perceptions. Save me for the sake of Thy mercy, so that where sin increases, Thy grace abounds; and I will praise and glorify Thee always, all the days of my life. Thou art the God of the repentant and the Savior of the sinners; and we send glory to Thee with Thy Father without beginning, and the Most Holy and Good, and Thy Life-giving Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 5, Saint John of Damascus
Master Lord Jesus Christ, our God, only have the power of a person to forgive sins, as good and humane, despise my whole knowledge and not knowledge of sin, and make me unjudgmentally partake of the Divine, and the most glorious, and the purest, and life-giving Your Mysteries, not in heaviness, not into torment, not into the application of sins, but into cleansing, and sanctification, and betrothal of the future Life and kingdom, into a wall and help, and into the objection of the opposition, into the destruction of many of my sins. You are the God of mercy, and generosity, and humanity, and we send glory to You, with the Father, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 6, Saint Basil the Great
Wem, Lord, as I unworthily partake of Your most pure Body and Your precious Blood, and I am guilty, and I judge myself and drink, not judging the Body and Blood of You, Christ and my God, but for Your bounty, daring, I come to You who recks: the eater of My flesh and drink my blood, abides in me, and I in him. Have mercy then, O Lord, and do not rebuke me a sinner, but deal with me according to Thy mercy; and may this holy one be with me for healing, and purification, and enlightenment, and preservation, and salvation, and for the sanctification of soul and body; to drive away every dream, and crafty deed, and the action of the devil, mentally acting in my hands, in boldness and love, even to You; in the correction of life and affirmation, in the return of virtue and perfection; in fulfillment of the commandments, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, in the guidance of the eternal belly, in response, favorable at Your terrible judgment: not into judgment or condemnation.

Prayer 7, St. Simeon the New Theologian
From bad lips, from a vile heart, from an unclean tongue, from the soul defiled, accept prayer, my Christ, and do not despise my words, below images, below unstudy. Give me boldness to speak, even if I want, my Christ, moreover, teach me what it is fitting for me to do and speak. I have sinned more than a harlot, even if I have taken away where you live, having bought the world, come boldly to anoint Your feet, my God, Lord and my Christ. As if he didn’t reject what came from the heart, disdain me below, Word: Give me your nose, and hold and kiss, and tearful streams, like a valuable world, this boldly anoint. Wash me with my tears, cleanse me with them, O Word. Forgive my transgressions, and grant me forgiveness. Weigh a multitude of evils, weigh and my scabs, and see my ulcers, but weigh faith, and see volition, and hear sighing. You are not hidden, my God, my Creator, my Redeemer, below a drop of tears, below a drop of a certain part. What I have not done is seen by Your eyes, but in Your book, and still not done, the essence is written to You. See my humility, see my work as a tree, and leave all sins, God of all: yes, with a pure heart, a trembling thought, and a contrite soul, I will partake of Your undefiled and most holy Mysteries, everyone who eats and drinks with a pure heart is enlivened and adored; Thou hast said, my Lord: everyone who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood, this one abides in Me, and I am in him. The word of every Master and my God is true: partake of divine and idolizing graces; Yes, because I will not be alone except for You, the Giver of Life, my breath, my stomach, my joy, the salvation of the world. For this sake, I come to You, as if you are seeing, with tears, and with a contrite soul, I ask you to accept the deliverance of my sins, and to partake of Your life-giving and immaculate Sacraments without condemnation, but stay, as if you said, with me trekennym: yes, not only find me Your grace, the deceiver will delight me with flattering, and the deceitful one will lead away those who worship Thy words. For this sake, I fall down to You, and I cry warmly to Ty: as if you accepted the prodigal, and the harlot who came, so accept me, prodigal and filthy, Generous. With a contrite soul, now coming to You, we, Savior, like another, like I, do not sin against You, below the deed of the deed, even as the deeds. But we pack this, as it is not the majesty of sins, nor the multitude of sins that surpasses my God, much long-suffering, and extreme philanthropy; but by the grace of compassion warmly repentant, and clean, and brighten, and create light, partakers, fellows of Your Divinity, making it unenviously, and strange both with an angel and with human thought, talk to them many times, as if your true friend. This audacity they do me, this one they hold me up, my Christ. And daring with Your rich beneficence to us, rejoicing together and trembling, I partake of this grass with fire, and a strange miracle, we irrigate it without disgrace, as if the bush were burning in ancient times. Now, with a grateful thought, with a grateful heart, with thankful hands, my soul and body, I bow and magnify, and glorify Thee, my God, as a blessed being, now and forever.

Prayer 8, Saint John Chrysostom
God, weaken, forgive, forgive me my sins, O Elika, I have sinned, if in word, if in deed, if in thought, willingly or unwillingly, mind or foolishness, forgive all of us as good and philanthropist, and with the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother, Your smart servants and the holy forces, and all the saints who have pleased you from time immemorial, uncondemnedly be pleased to accept your holy and most pure Body and honest Blood, for the healing of the soul and body, and for the purification of my evil thoughts. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

His same, 9th
Be satisfied, O Master Lord, that you may enter under the shelter of my soul; but if you wish, you, like a Lover of mankind, live in me, daringly I approach; command me to open the door, even though you alone created you, and enter with philanthropy, as if you were, enter and enlighten my darkened thought. I believe that you did this: you did not drive away the harlot who came to you with tears; below the publican rejected thou who repented; lower than the thief, knowing thy kingdom, thou hast driven away; below the persecutor, repenting, you left, hedgehog: but from repentance to you, who came all, in the person of your friends, you made you, the only blessed one always, now and forever and ever. Amen.

His same, 10th
Lord Jesus Christ, my God, weaken, leave, cleanse and forgive me sinful, and indecent, and unworthy of Your servant, transgressions, and sins, and my fall, Thy tree from my youth, even to this day and hour I have sinned: if in the mind and in foolishness, even in words or deeds, or thoughts and thoughts, and undertakings, and all my feelings. And by the prayers of the seedless birth of Thee, the Most Pure and Ever-Virgin Mary, Thy Mother, the only shameless hope and intercession and salvation of mine, grant me to partake without condemnation of Your most pure, immortal, life-giving and terrible Sacraments, for the remission of sins and for eternal life: for sanctification and enlightenment, strength, healing, and the health of the soul and body, and in the consumption and all-perfect destruction of my crafty thoughts, and thoughts, and enterprises, and nightly dreams, dark and crafty spirits; for Yours is the kingdom, and power, and glory, and honor, and worship, with the Father and Your Holy Spirit, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 11, Saint John of Damascus
I stand before the doors of Your temple, and I do not retreat from fierce thoughts; but You, Christ God, who justified the publican, and had mercy on Canaanite, and opened the door to the thief of paradise, open the wombs of Your love for mankind and receive me coming and touching You, like a harlot, and bleeding: Ova, having touched the edge of Your robe, make healing pleasant, Ova but keep your feet clean, bear the resolution of sins. But, accursed one, daring to perceive all Your Body, but I will not be scorched; but accept me, like one, and enlighten my spiritual feelings, burning my sinful guilt, with the prayers of the seedless Birth of Thee, and the powers of Heaven; so blessed are you forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer of Saint John Chrysostom
I believe, Lord, and I confess that You are truly the Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into the world to save sinners, from whom I am the first. I also believe that this is Your most pure Body, and this is Your precious Blood. I pray to Thee: have mercy on me, and forgive my sins, voluntary and involuntary, even in word, even in deed, even in knowledge and ignorance, and make me unjudgmentally partake of Your most pure Mysteries, for the remission of sins, and into eternal life. Amen.

When you come to take communion, say mentally these verses of Metaphrastus:
I now proceed to Divine Communion.
Co-worker, do not singe me with communion:
Thou art fire, unworthy fire.
But cleanse me from all filthiness.

Then:

And the verses:
Horror of the deifying Blood, man, in vain:
There is fire, unworthy fire.
Divine Body and adores and nourishes me:
He loves the spirit, but the mind nourishes strangely.

Then troparia:
Thou hast delighted me with love, O Christ, and Thou hast changed me with Thy divine zeal; but my sins fell into an immaterial fire, and to be satisfied with the hedgehog in Thee of pleasure: Yes, rejoicing, I magnify, Blessed, Thy two comings.
In the light of Thy Saints, how can I enter unworthy? If I dare to go to the chamber, the clothes convict me, as if I were not married, and I will be cast out from the Angels. Cleanse, O Lord, the defilement of my soul, and save me, like a Lover of mankind.

Also a prayer:
Lover of mankind, Lord Jesus Christ my God, may this Holy One not be in my judgment, for the hedgehog unworthy of being: but for the purification and sanctification of the soul and body, and for the betrothal of the future life and kingdom. But it is good for me to cling to God, to place in the Lord the hope of my salvation.

And further:
Thy secret supper this day, Son of God, take part in me; we will not tell the secret to your enemy, nor kiss thee, like Judas, but like a thief I will confess you: remember me, Lord, in your kingdom.

Easter canon, the work of St. John of Damascus, which constitutes the most essential part of Paschal Matins, is the crown of all spiritual songs.

As a church chanter, Damascene is called "Gold-streaming", and this name is quite befitting for him: all his chants deserve to be called exemplary songs; in all of them one can see the wonderful animation characteristic of a high singer.

Of the 64 canons compiled by him, the most exalted, solemn and joyful is the canon for Holy Pascha. St. John of Damascus composed the entire Paschal service, after which one cannot find another song in the samples of human creativity, more full of feelings as much alive as high, with holy and truly unearthly delights.

Easter canon is an outstanding work of church literature, not only from the pomp of its external form, but also in its internal merits, in the strength and depth of the thoughts contained in it, in the sublimity and richness of its content. This deeply meaningful canon introduces us to the spirit and meaning of the very feast of the Resurrection of Christ, makes us fully experience the soul and understand this event.

Easter Canon, Tone 1

Print version of the text

Canto 1

Irmos: Resurrection day, let's enlighten the people: Easter, Lord's Easter! From death to life, and from earth to Heaven, Christ God has led us, singing victoriously.

Chorus: Christ is risen from the dead.

Let us purify our feelings, and we will see the shining light of the resurrection of Christ, and rejoice, saying clearly, let us hear, victorious singing.

Chorus: Christ is risen from the dead.

Let the heavens rejoice with dignity, let the earth rejoice, let the world celebrate, all visible and invisible: Christ is risen, eternal joy.

Mother of God[]:
(Washed from the second day of Easter then giving)

Chorus:

Thou hast broken the limit of mortification, giving birth to eternal life of Christ, who shone from the tomb today, the Virgin of the all-blameless, and enlightened the world.

Chorus: Holy Mother of God, save us.

Having resurrected, seeing Your Son and God, rejoice with the apostles, God-gracious pure: and even rejoice first, as if all the joys of wine, thou hast taken, Mother of God, all-blameless.

Canto 3

Irmos: Come, we drink new beer, not miraculous from a barren stone, but an incorruptible source, from the tomb of Christ, we are affirmed in Nemzha.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Now all is filled with light, Heaven and earth and the underworld: let the whole creation celebrate the resurrection of Christ, it is affirmed in Nemzha.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Yesterday I was buried with Thee, O Christ, I am resurrected today by Thee, crucified to Thee yesterday, Praise me Himself, Savior, in Thy Kingdom.

Mother of God:

Holy Mother of God, save us.

I come to an incorruptible life today, by the goodness of the One Born from You, Pure, and with the whole end of the world shone.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

God, You gave birth to Him in the flesh, from the dead, as if speaking, having risen, having seen, Pure, rejoice, and this like God, Most Pure, magnify.

Ipakoi, voice 4:

Having anticipated the morning even about Mary, and having found the stone rolled away from the tomb, I hear from the Angel: in the light of the ever-present Existing, with the dead, what are you looking for, like a man? See the graven sheets, tetsyte, and preach to the world, as the Lord has risen, killing death, as he is the Son of God, saving the human race.

Canto 4

Irmos: On divine guard, may the God-speaking Habakkuk stand with us and show the luminiferous angel, clearly saying: today is the salvation of the world, as Christ is risen, as omnipotent.

Christ is risen from the dead.

The male ubo sex, as if opening a virgin womb, Christ appeared: like a man, the Lamb was called: blameless, like tasteless filth, our Easter, and like God is true, perfect speaking.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Like a one-year-old lamb, the crown of Christ blessed to us, by will for all was slain, Easter purgatory, and packs from the tomb of red truth to us the Sun rises.

Christ is risen from the dead.

The Godfather, then, David, galloping before the hay ark, playing, the people of God are holy, the images of the reality are sighted, we rejoice divinely, as if Christ is risen, as if omnipotent.

Mother of God:

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Who created Adam, Your forefather, the Pure One, is based on You, and destroy the mortal dwelling with Your death today, and illuminate everything with the divine brilliance of the resurrection.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

You gave birth to Christ, beautifully resplendent from the dead, Pure, seeing, kind and immaculate in wives and red, today for the salvation of all, rejoicing from the apostles, glorify Him.

Canto 5

Irmos: Let us morning deep in the morning, and instead of the world we will bring a song to the Lord, and we will see Christ, the Sun of Truth, shining life to all.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Your immeasurable compassion with hellish fetters of content is sighted, to the light of Christ, with merry feet, praising the eternal Pascha.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Let us proceed, O light-bearer, coming to Christ from the tomb as a bridegroom, and let us celebrate the Passover of God's saving Pascha with amorous rites.

Mother of God:

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Enlightened by the divine rays and the life-giving resurrection of Your Son, the Most Pure Mother of God, and the pious assembly is filled with joy.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

You didn’t open the gates of virginity in incarnation, you didn’t destroy the coffin, the seals, the King of creation: from the resurrected You, you see, Mati, rejoicing.

Canto 6

Irmos: Thou hast descended into the underworld of the earth and crushed the eternal faith, containing the bound Christ, and three days, like from the whale Jonah, thou hast risen from the tomb.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Having preserved the signs intact, Christ, thou hast risen from the tomb, the keys of the Virgin unharmed in thy birth, and thou hast opened the gates of paradise to us.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Save me, a living and non-sacrificial slaughter, as God Himself brought the Father to Himself, resurrected the all-born Adam, resurrected from the tomb.

Mother of God:

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Rise of old, held by death and corruption, Incarnated from Your most pure womb, to incorruptible and everlasting life, Virgin Mother of God.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Descend into the underworld of the earth, into Your bed, Pure, descended, and inhabited and incarnated more than the mind, and raised Adam with Himself, resurrected from the tomb.

Kontakion, tone 8

Even if you descended into the grave, Immortal, but you destroyed the power of hell, and you rose again as a conqueror, Christ God, prophesying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice, and grant peace to your apostle, give resurrection to the fallen.
Ikos

Even before the sun, the Sun sometimes set in the tomb, anticipating the morning, looking like the day of the myrrh-bearing virgin, and a friend to friends crying out: O friend! Come, let us anoint with stench the life-giving and buried body, the flesh of the Resurrected fallen Adam, lying in the tomb. Let us go, we will sweat like wolves, and we will bow, and we will bring peace as gifts, not in swaddling clothes, but in a shroud entwined, and we weep, and we will cry out: O Lord, arise, give resurrection to the fallen.

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one, we worship Your Cross, Christ, and we sing and glorify Your holy resurrection: Thou art our God, unless we know Thee otherwise, we call Thy name. Come, all you faithful, let us worship the holy resurrection of Christ: behold, for the joy of the whole world has come through the Cross. Always blessing the Lord, let us sing of His resurrection: having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death. (Three times)

Jesus resurrected from the tomb, as if prophesying, give us eternal life and great mercy. (Three times)

Canto 7

Irmos: Delivering the youths from the cave, being a man, he suffers as if he were mortal, and splendor will clothe the passion of death in incorruption, God is blessed of the fathers, and glorified.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Wives from the worlds of God-wise in the wake of You flow: He is like a dead man with tears in a lawsuit, bowing rejoicing to the Living God, and Your secret Pascha, Christ, a disciple of the gospel.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Death we celebrate mortification, hellish destruction, a different life of the eternal beginning, and playfully sing Guilty, the only blessed of the fathers of God and glorified.

Christ is risen from the dead.

As if truly sacred and all-celebrating, this saving night, and the luminous, luminous day, the rise of the essence is the herald: in it, the flightless Light from the tomb carnally ascends to all.

Mother of God:

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Having killed Your Son, death, All-blameless, today, to all mortals, abiding belly forever and ever, the One God blessed by the fathers and glorified.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Reign over all creation, being a man, dwell in Your, God-given, womb, and endure crucifixion and death, resurrect divinely, making us as omnipotent.

Canto 8

Irmos: This is the appointed and holy day, one Saturday is the King and Lord, the holidays are a feast, and there are triumphs of celebrations: in the same we bless Christ forever.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Come, new grape of birth, divine joy, in the deliberate days of the resurrection, let us partake of the Kingdom of Christ, singing Him as God forever.

Christ is risen from the dead.

Raise your eyes around, Zion, and see: behold, I have come to you, like a divinely luminous star, from the west, and the north, and the sea, and the east, your child, in you blessing Christ forever.

Trinity: Holy Trinity our God, glory to Thee.

Father of the Almighty, and the Word, and the Soul, the three natures united in hypostases, the Pre-Essential and the Divine, in Thee we are baptized, and we will bless Thee forever and ever.

Mother of God:

Holy Mother of God, save us.

The Lord, Virgin Mother of God, came into the world through You, and dissolved the womb of hell, the resurrection is a gift to us mortals: let us bless Him forever.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Having cast down all the power of death, Thy Son, Virgin, by His resurrection, like a mighty God, exalt us and adore us: the same we sing of Him forever.

Canto 9

Chorus: My soul magnifies the risen three days from the tomb of Christ the Life-giver.

Irmos: Shine, shine, new Jerusalem: the glory of the Lord is exalted upon you, rejoice now, and rejoice, Zion! You, Pure One, show off, Mother of God, about the rise of Your Nativity.

Chorus: Christ the new Passover, living sacrifice, Lamb of God, take away the sins of the world.

Oh divine! Oh dear! Oh, your sweetest voice! With us, it was not false that you promised to be, until the end of the age, Christ, His faithfulness, the affirmation of the hope of the property, we rejoice.

Chorus: An angel crying out more gracious: Pure Virgin, rejoice, and pack the river, rejoice! Your Son is risen three days from the tomb, and having raised up the dead, people, rejoice.

Oh, Easter is great and most sacred, Christ! About wisdom, and the Word of God, and Strength! Give us the truest communion with You, in the non-evening days of Your Kingdom.

Mother of God:

Holy Mother of God, save us.

According, Virgo, we are faithful to you: rejoice, the door of the Lord, rejoice in the animated city; Rejoice, even for the sake of us now, the light of the Resurrection of You, Born from the dead, has risen.

Holy Mother of God, save us.

Rejoice and rejoice, divine door of Light: for Jesus, who has entered the tomb, ascends, shining brighter than the sun, and illumining all the faithful, God-rejoiced Lady.

The exapostilary is self-sufficient

Having fallen asleep in the flesh, as if dead, King and Lord, thou hast risen three days, raised Adam from aphids, and abolished death: Easter of incorruption, salvation of the world. (Three times)

Easter stichera, tone 5:

Poem: Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered.

Sacred Pascha appears to us today: New Holy Pascha, Mysterious Pascha, All-Honorable Pascha, Christ the Redeemer Pascha: Immaculate Pascha, Great Pascha, Pascha of the Faithful, Pascha that opens the doors of Paradise to us, Pascha that sanctifies all the faithful.

Poem: As the smoke disappears, let them disappear.

Come from the vision of the woman of the evangelist, and cry to Zion: receive from us the joys of the annunciation of the Resurrection of Christ; Show off, rejoice and rejoice, Jerusalem, seeing the King of Christ from the tomb, as if the bridegroom is happening.

Poem: So let the sinners perish from the presence of God, and the righteous rejoice.

Myrrh-bearing women, deep in the morning, presenting themselves to the tomb of the Giver of Life, having found an Angel, sitting on a stone, and having proclaimed to them, she said: what are you looking for the living with the dead? Why are you crying incorruptible in aphids? As you go, preach to His disciples.

Poem: This day, which the Lord has made, let us rejoice and rejoice in it.

Red Easter, Easter, Lord's Easter! Easter is all-honourable to us. Easter! We embrace each other with joy. Oh Easter! Deliverance of sorrow, for today Christ has risen from the tomb, as if from the chamber, fill the women with joy, saying: preach the apostle.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. And now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Resurrection day, and let us shine with triumph, and embrace each other. Rtsem, brethren, and those who hate us, let us forgive the whole resurrection, and so let us cry out: Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs.

Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs(Thrice).

Also three times:

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the Only Sinless One. We worship Thy Cross, O Christ, and we sing and glorify Thy Holy Resurrection: Thou art our God, unless we know Thee otherwise, we call Thy name. Come all faithful, let us worship the holy Resurrection of Christ: behold, the joy of the whole world has come by the Cross. Always blessing the Lord, let us sing of His Resurrection: having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death.

Do you- except you. See you come- because here she comes.

Don’t we know anything else for You, we call Your name…- the words of the Holy Scriptures: Lord, do you not know anything else; We call Your name (Is. 26:13; see also Ode 5 of the canon for Communion).

***

We sing and glorify Your Resurrection: You are our God, do we not know You otherwise, we call Your name ...

“This expresses the feeling of perfect repose in the Savior. And how natural it is, especially now! .. In the risen Jesus Christ, a person - the poorest wanderer on earth - is delivered from sin, hell, death, the devil, adopted by God, honored by the deification of his nature ... If destroyed curse and sin, if death is trampled, if hell is destroyed and the head of the primordial enemy is erased, then what else to fear? If so much strength is manifested, will the Lord shorten His blessed right hand after this?

Saint Theophan the Recluse

Ipakoy, voice 4

Having anticipated the morning even about Mary, and having found the stone rolled away from the tomb, I hear from the Angel: in the light of the everlasting Existing One, with the dead, what are you looking for like a man? See the grave sheets; and preach to the world, as the Lord has risen, who kills death, as he is the Son of God, who saves the human race.

anticipating the morning- arrived before dawn. More about Mary- those who were with Mary (Mary's companions). I hear- heard. Tetsyte- run, hurry. Preach- announce. Yako is- because He.

***

"We hear in the Paschal canon the voice of the Angel to the myrrh-bearing women: Tetsyte and preach to the world, as the Lord has risen, killing death. The voice of the Angel in relation to us means: live so that your whole life is a single word: "Christ is Risen!" and so that, looking at you, the whole world, both Christian and non-Christian, would say: Truly Christ is risen, because apparently he lives in one or the other, apparently forces work for Him. the Risen Lord through imitation of Him and assimilation of the power of His resurrection.

Saint Theophan the Recluse

Kontakion, tone 8

Even if you descended into the grave, Immortal, but you destroyed the power of hell, and you rose again as the Conqueror, Christ God, prophesying to the myrrh-bearing women: Rejoice, and grant peace to your apostle, give resurrection to the fallen.

Asche- although. Prophetic- said.

In the tomb of the flesh, in hell with a soul like God, in paradise with a thief, and on the Throne you were, Christ, with the Father and the Spirit, fulfilling everything, Indescribable.

Do everything- fulfilling everything by Himself. undescribed- ineffable (indescribable).

The troparion in the briefest words gives a striking image of the fullness of the Godhead - Christ, inseparably abiding with the Father and the Spirit, rests his body in the tomb, descends in soul into hell and brings out the souls of the righteous, and according to His true words to the thief, now abides with him in paradise (Lk .23:43) - and, filling everything with Himself, brings the Universe to fullness, fulfills the work of salvation.

The Apostle Paul, citing a psalm verse, says: It is said: having entered on high, he took captive captives and gave gifts to men (Ps. 67:19). And "ascended," what does it mean, if not that He also descended before into the lower parts of the earth? Descending, He is also ascended above all heavens, in order to fulfill everything (Eph. 4: 8-10).

Glory:

Like the Life-bearer, like the most beautiful of paradise, truly, the brightest of all royal chambers, Christ, Thy tomb, the source of our resurrection.

And now:

Highly consecrated Divine village, rejoice, for you have given joy, Mother of God, to those who call: blessed are you in women, O All-blameless Lady.

reddest- the most beautiful. Vyshnyago- the Almighty. village- housing.

Like the Life-bearer, like the reddest of paradise ... The tomb of Christ appears before us as the bearer of Life (the Life-bearer), more beautiful than paradise, sparkling more than any royal palace! (Please note: the subject in this sentence - what is being said - is precisely the tomb of Christ, "Christ" is an appeal, we are talking to Christ about His tomb)

Lord have mercy(40 times).

Glory, and now:

The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Christ has risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and bestowing life on those in the tombs(Thrice).

On the days of the Paschal week, and even up to the giving of Pascha, the troparion of Pascha is sung (or read) before the meal, and after the meal, the merit of Pascha.

Zadostoynik (refrain and irmos of the 9th song of the Paschal canon):

An angel crying out of grace: Pure Virgin, rejoice! And pack the river: rejoice! Your Son is risen three days from the tomb, and raised up the dead; folks, have fun.

Shine, shine, new Jerusalem, the glory of the Lord is upon you. Rejoice now and rejoice, Sione; You, Pure One, show off, Mother of God, about the uprising of Your Nativity.

Vopiyashe- proclaimed. Pack the river - I repeat. show off- rejoice, enjoy. Thy Christmas- Born by you.

Shine, shine, the new Jerusalem... By the new Jerusalem is meant the New Testament Church of Christ. Rejoice now and rejoice, Zion ... Under Zion (the mountain on the south side of Jerusalem, where the house of King David was, and later the chamber of the Last Supper, and the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles) in the New Testament, according to the interpretation of blessed Jerome, of course, the saints: they , standing on the pinnacle of the virtues, they form Zion, of which it is said: Its foundation is on the mountains of the saints. The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the villages of Jacob (Ps. 87:2).

Prayer of St. Ephraim the Syrian

This prayer is read in the temple on Wednesday and Friday of the Cheese Week and throughout the Holy Fortecost, except for Saturdays and Sundays (if you follow the charter exactly, it is also read on some days and other multi-day fasts). During Great Lent (in the weeks) it should certainly be included in your cell rule; most naturally - at the end of morning and evening prayers, and, if possible, in the middle of the day.

Mother of God:

Canto 8

Irmos: This is the appointed and holy day, one Sabbath is the King and the Lord, the feast of feasts, and the triumph is of feasts: in it let us bless Christ forever.

Chorus: An angel crying out more graceful: pure Virgin, rejoice, and again, rejoice!

Notes
Chorus to them: “Most Holy Theotokos, save us”, or “Glory...”, “And now...”/>
